The comparison to Abu Ghraib is notable because a) nobody was ever punished for that either and b) it was essentially swept into a memory hole.
The Trump Administration is enabling torture and sexual assault. Many of the people they’ve shipped out to CECOT are asylum seekers. Half had no criminal record whatsoever. These mass deportations to third-party countries must end.
Venezuelans sent by Trump to El Salvador endured systematic torture, report finds
Human rights groups accuse Trump officials of complicity and draw comparison with scandal at Abu Ghraib prison

It's uncomfortable for a lot of kidlit creators to contend with, but if you leave porn without defense, the censors are comin for you next THEY ALWAYS DO

(and they HAVE been in this era of book bans)
(defend porn like your freedom of speech depends on it)
(because it does)
There has been a noticeable reticence in left and liberal circles to voice full-throated support for pornography, even as it's become increasingly clear what the open end goals of the censorship movement are
In a lot of ways other leftists chose this path folks. They shrugged and didn’t care when Patreon banned a ton of hypnosis and TF creators, or when YouTube started their ASMR crackdown. Now it’s coming for queer porn creators, more and more. Who will stand up?

I want copies of this article to be taped to poles for blocks all around this shitbag's residence so his neighbors can shun him. All around his workplace. Hell, geofence it so when people Google his name they see this article. May he never make another friend or go out on another date again.
According to the car wash owner, agents arrested employees before they could obtain their documentation from their work lockers. So many were likely here legally.

Here's hoping this article on Zac boasting about how he ruined some immigrants' lives follows him around for a very long time.

A lot of "progressive" stuff in the '30s/'40s -- the NLRA, FDR's social programs, etc -- were trying to stave off the radicalism of the '30s. USians inspired by & learning from then-communist Russia.

That pole is gone now, and so is the motive for the U.S. to keep people from getting too red.
He wants to push us back to the 1930s, and then trap us there, by preventing us from electing another FDR.
This is far worse than anyone expected.

Trump's HUD plan would cut *two-thirds* of permanent housing and push as many as 170,000 formerly homeless people back onto the street—redirecting funds to work mandates, forced treatment, and encampment sweeps.

All as mass internment camps are being built.

Man, late-stage capitalism is really, really ugly.

I mean, I write horror and every metaphor I can call up right now is like, "I'm sorry, kid. I got nothing."

I think it would be very helpful to understand that Nixon was not impeached because of his Watergate crimes.

He was impeached b/c the anger and boiling point of the U.S. public needed somewhere to go, and he was an easy sacrifice. The ruling class made a strategic decision to cut him loose.

This article keeps getting shared. It's.... bad. The author claims that millions of kids are being taught a certain reading method, but she never once states how she got that conclusion or provides data to back it up.

Sylvia Plath's Ariel soaked its way into my bones, down to the marrow itself. I can recite whole stanzas, sometimes whole poems, and the cadence of it sneaks into my sentences even now, leaping entirely past thought.
performative reading, lack of reading skills, nobody's reading anymore -- NO!

for me? the *extremely* ahistorical novel, THE AGONY AND THE ECSTASY which I read at 13 and was like, "Oh, art can be *everything* to a maker, for good and bad"

I pitched my forthcoming novel, Muñeca, as “Bound meets Mexican Gothic.”

It’s about witchcraft, colorism, guilt, complicity, sapphic lust; queer found family, parental love, sacrifice; the anger of the servant class; the lure – and the limits – of revenge.

THEY PEPPER SPRAYED A BABY

Please read this entire excellent piece by Caroline, which points out that a judge ordered the Feds (again) to stop doing **this exact kind of thing** and they are still continuing to do it all over Chicago
Arianna Sofia Veraza and her parents were driving to Sam's Club for milk, eggs and diapers yesterday when they heard helicopters and horns blaring yesterday. They had turned around to leave when a federal agent pepper-sprayed them through a car window.
