I remember my mama taking my D’Angelo CD because it was too grown for me (it was 😂). I ended up having one of my friends burn me a copy of theirs and I’d listen to it on the bus.

Rest in peace, sir.

Cancer Sucks. 🖕🏾

The ignorance continues. The Black horror subgenre exists because it’s so little of it. It’s why we talk about it so much, hoping studios and producers will dispel barriers for Black filmmakers, writers, creators so more of our stories are made. And all Black horror isn’t an allegory for white ppl.
Me responding to a tweet that said: “The black horror genre really is just a different allegory for white people over and over.” I responded with: “Reducing Black horror to “white allegories” misses the entire point. Also: Eve’s Bayou, Sweetheart, Bad Hair, Demon Knight, Abby, Night’s End, Vampire in Brooklyn, Spell, The Alchemist Cookbook, Dr. Black, Mr. Hyde, Blacula, Bitch Ass, Def by Temptation, The Boy Behind the Door )

And we can always tell. There hasn’t been a movie that we’ve watched in the past 2 years that used AI and was able to get it past viewers.

One thing AI is good for is reminding people how even the very worst movie they’ve ever seen is better than AI “movies”

Also: there’s a fun scene with a penis. That’s always good.

Because there’s a list of them!

What do you think is the most disrespected Black horror movie on Rotten Tomatoes? Extra points if I haven’t seen it 🕵🏾‍♀️

My good sis Abby has no love there. She’s got a 40% audience score. And Welcome Home Brother Charles, same situation. But ultimately, I’m going with The People Under the Stairs! I don’t understand the scores for this movie at all.

I will follow outlets I enjoy reading and if an opportunity arises, say they put out a call for submissions, I’ll pitch. I’ll also follow the editors, as they sometimes put out calls. But a good site to check is Freedom with Writing. They post lists of all kinds of writing opportunities.

I just sent in a pitch to a publication I’ve been afraid to pitch because imposter syndrome is real. But now I’m freaking out and halfway regretting it. 🫣

I sat down with my dad to interview him, get some insight into his life and the legacy he’s built in his lifetime and I learned so much about his work as an activist. It’s my hope to do more to tell his story.
