The three blocks are divided into two sites for this project. Site 1, Block 112, adjacent to Willamette University - Pacific Northwest College of Art (PNCA), is an approximately 30,000 square foot parcel extending from NW Glisan St. north to NW Hoyt Street, east of NW Park Ave. Currently the site is asphalt paved and is leased to PNCA for parking and event space. The proposed design is intended to be urban plaza and support the first section of Green Loop in the North Park Blocks. Site 1 will be designed, permitted, bid, and constructed as part of this project.Site 2, the Broadway Corridor Park Parcels, is a 2-acre site spanning two full blocks from NW Hoyt to NW Johnson Street. This site is owned by Prosper Portland and will support the future development of the Broadway Corridor neighborhood and Green Loop. In accordance with the 2019 Broadway Corridor Masterplan, Portland Parks & Recreation will develop a 30% completeness design and engineering package for the park parcel, including a two-block section of the Green Loop which will ascend 18-feet above NW Johnson St at Parcel 2 before continuing north to the Broadway Bridge. An additional requirement of this project is to create a design guidelines document for the Green Loop through the North Park Blocks extension and Broadway Corridor including Design Goals, Materials standards, Wayfinding and Signage, User Experience, and Operations and Maintenance." If you go to a suburban mall, you will probably have to park outside and walk in. You don’t expect to drive in to your store.

But for some reason in urban areas it’s considered an injustice if you can’t park directly in front of the store you want to go to.

Amtrak's annual ridership was up 5%, hitting an all-time record high of 34.5 million rides nationwide over the last year. Amtrak Cascades also hit a record high, reporting 1.4% growth and coming in just short of crossing the million-ride mark for the year.

Santa Fe is now the first city to tie the minimum wage to the cost of rent.

The Santa Fe City Council voted to raise its minimum wage from $15/hr to $17.50 by 2027 — but they also added another provision.

Future increases will factor in inflation, and the price of housing.

RE-TIME SIGNALS. Currently, Seattle's downtown traffic signals are timed for 25 mph, which is fine for cars but leaves bikes waiting every few blocks. Reducing that to 12.5 mph—as they did in Portland—can improve safety and move all modes more effectively.
Excerpt from the NHTSA's 2023 study "Exploring the Impact of Select Speed-Reducing Countermeasures on Pedestrian and Bicyclist Safety" Seattle, WA Description: Seattle reduced speed limits throughout the city. They enacted policy changes to reduce the statutory arterial speed limit from 30 mph to 25 mph and neighborhood streets from 25 mph to 20 mph as well as posted gateway signs on highways entering the city. In the downtown area, they retimed signals to a 25-mph progression speed in conjunction with lowering the default arterial speed limit. They also reduced speed limits in certain “urban village” areas, which are denser neighborhood centers throughout Seattle, outside of the downtown, that feature a mix of land uses as well as access to transit.
