Amazing. After nearly losing her house, and being locked away in a legal battle for years because of one innocuous line in her last TED Talk, @carolecadwalla.bsky.social returns to the Lion’s Den, and calls out the Broligarchs

It’s untenable.

True patriots do not support ReformUK, Putin or Trump. They are not racist or try to ‘other’ any group in society. True patriots didn‘t vote for Brexit or a Tory party full of liars, back handers, criminals and second jobbers. Nor would they have partied during lockdown when others were dying.

In this new world, if you're not around the table, you're on the menu.

If China, Russia, US are allowed to decide Europe's future, our future won't be ours.

European leaders...lead!

Who will defend Europe?
Caught between an aggressive Russia and a disengaging America, the continent’s western democracies must now rearm — or pay the price

Maybe there’s less to be proud of now in this divided, austerity ravaged, small minded, xenophobic, pothole riddled country thanks to him knocking 4% off GDP.

You can’t be taught to be proud, you have to have something to be proud of.
Pride is a response that‘s earned, not a fact to be learned.

When will Govt learn you can’t out-Reform Reform - you end up simply legitimising their toxic narrative. To see off populists, Labour needs to invest in public services & local communities, making a real difference to people’s lives - levy a wealth tax & use it to improve people’s lives *now*
Group of Labour MPs urge No 10 to be tougher on migration to fend off Reform

If UK news shows are going to give Nigel Farage a platform to spout this absolute boll**** about Brexit & the vaccine rollout (unchallenged) I’ll happily come back every week to correct it

We cannot allow them to rewrite history.

If you agree share this FACT CHECK widely

It’s infantile.
But Farage needs people to ‘believe’ rather than think.. or hold him to account.
Because his kind of Brexit would be utterly ruinous. Far worse than this relentless crappiness.
It’s the only thing he can peddle now… the ugly fantasy that prejudice will usher in prosperity.

hmm. Personally, my view is that the 'right' policies for the wrong reasons are still dangerous and should not be applauded, as @martinmckee.bsky.social , @kentbuse.bsky.social and I argued in the @bmj.com last month.

It’s interesting that those coming forward to defend brexit always want a free pass on some aspect. “I never thought it was about the economy” is a favourite. “For me it was always about controlling our borders”. The fact is, you don’t get to choose. You supported the project, lock, stock etc.

This is the HQ of Avis Capital. It claims to be one of the largest companies in the UK, with £58bn in assets and 31% returns promised to investors.

Except it's all a lie.

Here's how regulatory failures are letting international fraudsters create massive fake UK companies.

What I do not understand about the enthusiasm for preservation of a "culture" is:
1. A culture that has ceased to innovate and is blind to other creative influence is dead. It is preserved in the sense that stuffed animals are preserved; and
2. If it has to be forced upon people it is not a culture.

Govt wants economic growth but silent on equitable distribution of income/wealth.

People are cash cows for the rich/corporations ... hired, dumped

Average UK real wage lower than in 2008. 16m live in poverty. Rich got richer

Can't get sustainable growth without improving the lot of the bottom 50%

I'm proud to present my 🇪🇺 Youth Mobility Scheme Bill 🇬🇧 – a vital step to give young Brits the chance to live, work, and study across Europe.

The botched Brexit deal robbed them of these opportunities. It's time to fix that and reset our relationship with the EU.
