The "player felt a negative emotion for a moment in a playtest, that's now a Pri 1 problem" instinct in AAA prod is a huge tarpit for our industry

Yeah ok, fair point. But I did have to see how much worse I can make it. And I could make QUITE BAD indeed 😁🤮

Don't worry, this combo of effects will not be in the game.

yes, phones are distracting. the only thing you can do about that is try to be more interesting than the phone. if you make your shit less interesting so that people can follow it while multitasking people will pay even less attention! obviously!

I did a quick bake and texture of the head and hair to test out my topology, get a better look at facial proportions, and decide how stylized I want the eyes to be. It feels good to get to this stage after a lot of sketching and sculpting.

NEW: the new game Dispatch is a huge hit (1 million copies!). But few people know how close it came to never existing.

Here's the wild story, from a canceled Splinter Cell game (scoop!) to a Telltale divorce to the founders not taking paychecks for six months: www.bloomberg.com/news/newslet...

The narrative, superhero game starring Aaron Paul of ‘Breaking Bad’ sold 1 million copies in the 10 days following its Oct. 22 release

The thing about all the big shooters right now being compromised by AI workflows and coming out of BDS-targeted publishers is that STRAFTAT is free and just received a major update adding 50+ new maps.

this is so cart-before-horse to me. i don't accept that people's attention spans are shorter in a way that has to matter. the problem is that we keep thinking that and "complying in advance" with the imagined boogieman of "people not paying attention nowadays". nothing done in that direction helps
You wanna know why we're having nag line discourse in 2025? Because developers know we're fighting an attention economy war we'll lose no matter what. Players don't read, have TikTok open next to them, god forbid we are scared you miss something and then blame us for not giving you all the info.

Eurgh. It's not even cutting corners. They just decided to not have artists involved at all and just used whatever they could squeeze out of an image generator.

There's a whole set of Generic Ghibli Style ones in there too.

This is Call Of Duty, the poster child for budget excess in AAA. So tacky.
Call of Duty isn't even hiding the fact that loads of its calling cards and other unlockables are AI generated this year.

For one of the biggest video game franchises in the world this is pretty disgusting...

My phone has full optical character recognition of 47,000 photos. I can search individual words.

I cannot search three words in quotes.

Computers used to be powerful. That power meant something. It was power for making your life better in sovereignty to your own interests.

And now we have this.

I like how full text search of every book and human thought ever was a SOLVED PROBLEM in 2001, and now dicks at search engines and my own phone – a piece of silicon faster to respond than God was ever imagined in scripture – prevent it from working, _as a retroactive infantilizing design choice_.

Computers were a skill. They were taught in classrooms as a skill. Skills give you power over your tools because you work them as an expert and that is leverage to multiply externally.

And then computers became an A/B tested telemetry-based advertising conduit to brains for SaaS recurring revenue.
