one thing i think is true is that republicans assumed that democrats would not respond in kind and that the forceful pushback spooked them (a lesson to learn here, perhaps)
Trump's corrupt scheme to rig 2026 is suddenly falling apart:

*Court strikes down Texas GOP gerrymander
*Indiana GOP lacks votes to redraw map
*Big Dem win in Virginia could give Ds more seats

As the Trump-GOP scheme to gerrymander the midterms suddenly faces big new setbacks, a Democratic operative who’s leading in these fights explains why the battle isn’t over—and what must happen now.

This graphic explains SO much about U.S. truck/SUV mania & consumer culture generally.
“As pickups transitioned from farm/ranch workhorses to lifestyle vehicles, their design shifted accordingly: Cabs expanded to accommodate more passengers, while beds shrank. The first generation of F-150s were 36% cab & 64% bed by length. By 2021, the ratio had flipped.

one of the things that makes talking about single stair and redevelopment a little different in NYC is that their building code allows use of scissor stairs - which while not as compact - still allows redevelopment of small lots

Which is why he won’t release them. So he can protect the Democrats who want to hurt him from being exposed in the files they created that aren’t real.

But he won’t. Because they’re a hoax created by the Democrats to hurt his presidency.

Trump's economy is being held up by a massive AI bubble.

A recent study found that of 300 companies that owned generative AI tools, 95% reported zero return on their investments.

We will not entertain a bailout of these companies should this bubble pop.

Literally just lectured about this!

In the late 1960s, air quality was so bad in several cities they had to turn on the street lights during the day so drivers could see. And yeah, the Cuyahoga River was so polluted it literally caught on fire.
Oh, I don’t know. Our rivers no longer catch on fire and our air is far less poisonous than it used to be, even in smog bowls like Los Angeles. And I think those are good things.
If there’s no shale gas then there’s no shale gas, but I still think environmentalism is basically bad and politicians should focus more on material prosperity.

The House bill being voted on today to require cash bail in DC is insane.

DC hasn’t had cash bail since 1992, and crime has plummeted since.

Our current system is near identical to federal law.

People should be held pretrial if they pose a safety risk — not because they are too poor to pay bail.

i... just want to see social housing and coops in the US with same livability and quality as swiss housing (which have more adaptable units and better life safety outcomes) 🫠

the overwhelming majority of units are dual or corner aspect - offering a quality of life far better than you find in US construction.

all homes also have private outdoor space, and active solar protection.

These is a troubling quote because this is not how it’s supposed to work. Fire safety rules are supposed to balance cost and benefit, not just push for any possible risk reduction no matter the cost.

per SF Fire Data, since 2003 in pre-1976 high rises (not just condos), there's been

- 0 deaths
- 20 injuries
- ~15 million in property damage (not adjusted for inflation)

This ordinance would hit 9800 units and cost 2.7 billion.

In other words, we have contributed to strangle the building industry with more restrictive codes just because (not scientific) and it hasn’t made anything safer, just more expensive and unlikely to be built. Maybe that was the goal

You get the sense listening to firefighters and code professionals that most multifamily buildings in America are built in rural areas with volunteer fire departments that rely entirely on ground ladders. I think it reflects where a lot of them live more than the reality of multifamily construction.
I love how the firefighters union, when confronted with data about the safety of single stair, argue “Well New York and Seattle have good firefighters, unlike here in California where we suck ass at our jobs”
