When the Mansion Tax moaners go "Ah - I became rich by historical accident! I accumulated vast wealth through no effort of my own!" do they think that makes them more sympathetic

The Telegraph in particular has a limitless appetite for the "after I spend my gigantic salary on ski trips and private school fees I'm actually poor" article.
the next couple of days are going to see a hell of a lot of "the rich declare themselves poor"

This is the thing to hang onto - I’m glad people are appalled by Farage’s Nazi sympathies now, but the fact is, he was able to present TV programmes and constantly appear as a sofa guest for decades, booked by people who knew it all. We must reckon with that.
Evidence of Farage’s unabashed youthful racism has been in the public domain since at least 2013, yet somehow he has been allowed to remain part of the British political conversation. The fact he wasn’t driven back under a rock years ago has emboldened racists across the country to spread hatred.

This is an incredibly powerful article by Peter Ettedgui. I hope people listen to him and to the others who are brave enough to come forward.

This is a very, very sad reminder that lifelong arseholes, abusers and bigots leave behind them a long trail of people who know exactly who and what they are, but whose chance of getting a hearing is a lottery dependent on other people's interest.
Still can't quite believe that "I only said 'gas the Jews' in a non-hurtful way" was the strategy Nigel Farage opted to go for

I don't think this was actually deliberately published as ragebait, but the entitlement contained within is remarkable and a classic example of the sort of sentiment governments sometimes just have to face down inews.co.uk/inews-lifest...?

I don't understand how anyone can watch how blatantly Grok is manipulated to answer the way ownership desires it to and then act like the other LLM chatbots couldn't possibly be similarly but less obviously compromised to produce responses in whatever way corporate interests and priorities dictate.

NEW: It’s takes a moment for this to really sink in.

Remember all those Op Eds about how Biden was losing his grip in reality?

Anyway...
Trump: "I've settled eight wars ... one war -- 36 years. I got it done in one day."

"I’m watching the fascists win not by being especially cunning or clever but by instead standing around and holding a big sign that says “jump in this hole if you’re an easy mark!” and somehow guiding around two thirds of our political elite directly into the big hole." Brilliant.

How can any student feel safe with Summers after he discussed, in writing, how to groom his students in exchanges with Jeffrey Epstein? What right does he have to his prestigious teaching position? Could Harvard really not hire other faculty to deliver this course?
Larry Summers discusses his “statement of regret” for his disturbing messages to Jeffrey Epstein with Harvard students

Twenty-six accusations of sexual assault. Twenty-six.
Nancy Mace: "You can see in the Epstein emails that he's clearly targeting President Trump as retribution for him being a good man ... he's a good man who protects women. That's what real men do."

But also maybe they should ruin his life?

A guy asking Epstein for advice on how to sexually harass a junior colleague knows exactly what Epstein was and was clearly OK with it. I am frankly OK with someone ruining his life.

Evidently it ought to have happened decades ago.
Larry Summers is 70. Firing him is not ruining his life.

You do not have to let antisemitic bigots into your tent just because they fell out with the bigot in the other tent. Marjorie can sleep outside in the cold.

“A vote for Labour is the only way to stop Reform”

Or

“Labour can actually do what Reform only claims it can do”

The government needs to pick one strategy, not both. The government seems unaware that voters can actually hear it trying both messages at once.

Anyone else with a refugee background finding *all this* triggering?

It is not ‘about me’. I live safe in a warm house and have two global north citizenships.

But I grew up with a parent with a suitcase of all the documents he might ever need tucked under his bed.

Don’t follow this route, people.

It is a serious problem for our political discourse that the most consistently astute commentator in the country is someone posting anonymously on social media behind a rat avatar.
June 2016 here. Do you notice how this has been proven correct: there really is no way to appease the reactionary right, who take every concession to their fucknut demands as a new base camp to strike out for more and nastier?
