"NEWS STORIES IN Irish, many of which appear to praise China, have been circulating on a Facebook page for about a month now, it has emerged.

The stories appear to have been translated by a translation machine from English or a Chinese language into Irish." #Ireland #SpéirGhorm
A security expert has suggested that a Facebook page with news items in Irish might be an attempt by China to exert influence on Irish speakers.

We urgently need Compulsory Rental Orders so no habitable home lies empty in order to keep rents high, espically new build apartment blocks

Leaving these homes empty just goes to show that the profit margins must be huge to go without any income

Housing crisis in a nutshell

“Our adult children would love to move out

There’s a beautiful new apartment block 5 minutes away. Sadly they are all for rent at extortionate prices

What’s more infuriating is many of these apartments are still vacant” (text in alt) www.irishtimes.com/opinion/lett...

A great (& sad) example of why we urgently compulsory sales & rental of long-term vacant & derelict homes in Ireland
What was a lovely terrace of 6 homes up to 12 years ago became a speculative asset left rot while children go without a home

NEW: Peter Thiel has blinked. Yesterday, I posted an article about the "Great AI Bubble". And today, we find out that he's bailed on the market.

Has he cut & run? Or is this some 3-D chess-type voodoo? Thoughts please.

Electrification in Europe and US: slowing down over the last 15 years, and only progressing very slowly in recent years.

Electrification in China: chugging along at a much higher speed, well exceeding the level in Europe and US now.
In the global electrification race China is marching ahead.

The US and Europe risk falling behind clinging on to yesterday's technologies.

The climate crisis won’t wait — and neither will we.

EU countries have agreed on a new, ambitious climate commitment under the Paris Agreement.

#Speirgorm Importing and burning Fossil Fuels is costing us a fortune (>€1m per hour in 2024).
Worth supporting @foeireland.bsky.social
(I don't always agree with FOE or @greenpartyie.bsky.social but #Climate and #StopBurningStuff is something we can all agree on).

There's nothing inherently wrong with climate change. It's just that the ecosystems and built environments that we depend on as life support systems aren't equipped to handle the rapid changes. So if we want to live, we should deal with climate change ASAP.

Sincere thanks to Derek Scally in @irishtimes.com who captures the significance of presenting The Objects of Love exhibition in Radogoszcz, Łódź, Poland .

Radogoszcz, now a museum was a former Gestapo camp where my grandfather, Pawel was incarcerated.

A profound moment of healing for my family.

This is the ONLY thing that matters at #COP30. It is the ONLY thing that should guide discussions and frame decisions. If we fail to halt the rise of CO2 concentrations and turn them negative then all else is wasted effort.

Emissions have gone up in the past, but our outlook has improved.

Projections for 2100 are lower today than 10y ago. 2015 we estimated temperature increase of up to 3.8° by 2100, we now it’s 2.7 given current policies.
