Even for me, this is pretty in the weeds, but the shift in tone in SCOTUSblog's coverage since Sarah Isgur and The Dispatch took over—more deferential to the Court, more reverential of the justices as celebrities, more credulous and stenographic across the board—has been...notable
Maybe this new blog can respond, in one of its first posts, to the argument that the term “interim docket” is a deliberately misleading attempt to minimize the (very permanent) doctrinal and real-world consequences of #SCOTUS’s rulings on emergency applications?

It’s hard to get morning runs in when you’re on work travel, especially in the winter. Finally but the bullet this morning and set the alarm early. Disliked it at 5:30 but man do I feel better after 3 miles on the treadmill.

Well, Iowa - Iowa State was a heckuva women’s basketball game. Audi Crooks is a FORCE. Hawks kept it competitive but needed a guard to catch fire if they wanted to win, and just didn’t get that. Still a hugely entertaining game.

In DC this week for work. Sounds cool, in reality is sitting in meetings all day for 3 days in a row and it being dark by the time we’re done every day. Ah well.

Oh dang.
the reason a catchall term like "evangelical" even exists is an attempt to recognize that, across many different Christian denominations, there is an anti-intellecual, vibes-based agreement on who Jesus is and how a student might best follow him - and - it's definitely not by sharpening their mind

My old AppleTV HD (2015) is starting to feel very slow. Would be happy to replace it but the current newest AppleTV available is still 3 years old. They’ve been rumoring a new one for months… will see how long I can put up with the lagginess while waiting for Apple to release the new one.

Brilliant. Also: their evangelical training has promised them that all of this unorderedness should be able to be corrected with appropriate amounts of prayer and discipline. It's terrifying when that parenting fantasy falls apart.
some significant part of this is just catch-all fear for “this is not the child I ordered” I think
Oh, here's a big surprise. The transphobes don't believe in ADHD either.

then, the transphobes , feeling victorious at how many people they have made unhappy and despairing in the previous week, move on to anything else that has a spectrum and the possibility of more colours than they can conceive - such hateful people - they cannot understand anything that is not THEM

2025 Reads: We Did Ok, Kid by Anthony Hopkins 📚

I’ve enjoyed Hopkins since seeing him in The Remains of the Day. His memoir here is brisk and easy to read, but you get the sense that he has slowly done the work to come to peace with and acceptance of himself. May we all be willing to do that work.

Apparently there are vendors now that will make custom tropical shirt fabric prints; my department found one and now we have shirts with our test aircraft on them, including the correct N-number. Yeah, we’re nerds.

My One Album a Day for yesterday—which I’m just catching up to this morning—is Blues Breakers with Eric Clapton from 1966. My first familiarity with Clapton was his Unplugged. I was in high school. This is… not that. Lordy, this guy’s electric guitar smokes. (Some hot blues organ in there, too!)

This essay “Evangelicalism: A Love Story” is lovely writing. But the author works hard to redefine the word “evangelical” so that he can have the provocative framing. Growing up Methodist and having a dalliance with Catholicism before becoming Anglican isn’t what most of us know as “evangelical”.
Evangelicalism: A Love Story
While many have left evangelicalism behind, others have benefited from the quiet faithfulness of everyday evangelicals.

Muppet Christmas Carol

What is the message of A Christmas Carol if not "Repent for the Kingdom of God is at hand?"

The ax is at the root of the tree, Scrooge.

Today’s One Album A Day for me is Emperor Tomato Ketchup from Stereolab.

There’s no way I would’ve been ready for this in 1996 when it came out; almost 30 years later I’m really digging it.
