I like this debate between socialists and anti-monopolists in The Prospect & other pubs, but there should be way more acknowledgement of Malcolm Harris' great new book WHAT'S LEFT, which is all about how these different left-wing factions can work together!
Responding to Matt Bruenig, @ryanlcooper.com argues that "there must be a role for antitrust for any brand of socialism that includes markets."

Moira Donegan and IN BED WITH THE RIGHT can go pound sand. Tone-policing respectability mutants.

Glad to see Jessica Lee Gagne get an Emmy nom for directing the best episode of Severance s2 — the longtime cinematographer's directorial debut at that! I had a great talk with her last month for @goldderby.com, complete with compliments from most of the cast www.goldderby.com/article/2025...
How the longtime ‘Severance’ cinematographer wound up directing Season 2’s standout episode
Jessica Lee Gagné worked alongside Ben Stiller on nearly every episode. For Season 2's standout, she took the helm herself.

NYTimes Ed Board 1935 on Mayor La Guardia: "[He is] fond of toying with haphazard proposals that may be benevolent in intention but are dangerous or impossible in practice. He seems always to want to have in hand some socialistic plaything or other. Just now it is a municipal power plant."

The bully characters ie BIF, Alex P Keaton, Greed is Good, Skinheads - these were all part of the soup of the generation. Cobain et all were OUTLIERS.
I'm going to keep saying this until I die. The majority of white Gen X men in particular who I knew were REACTIONARIES when they were young. Them supporting Trump and fascists is a straight line not an outlier.

The leader of the Democratic Party in Minnesota was assassinated by a cop in her home, one of New York's 3 citywide elected officials was kidnapped on camera by stormtroopers, and Trump is credibly threatening to nuke Iran

Wow this NYT op-ed is one of the most reactionary screeds I've read in a minute. An endorsement of indicted criminals Eric Adams and Andrew Cuomo that is too cowardly to actually say so outright

This is exactly the kind of thing that US-funded dictatorships used to do in other countries for decades; that's what the Cold War was. Now it's inevitably come home. The fight is here now
