The most impressive part of this to me is actually the drop of .7ug in the greater metro. The WHO recommends an avg concentration of no greater than 5ug, and there are 12.5M people included in that survey. That's like 4% of the population with measurably better health outcomes due to a local policy.

Why is it so hard for people to understand that even if my favorite policies won't be implemented, it makes more sense for me to vote for someone who actually wants to do them?

Actually I should clarify that in a functioning democracy, marching can demonstrate popular opposition without an immediate threat of violence, if people are able to vote for their beliefs. But democracies are upheld by the threat of violence, so it's not really a huge distinction.
If 100 million people marched and did nothing else, it would probably be impactful, but not because of the protest. The impact comes from the implicit threat of violent resistance.
