Over a quarter of Trump's proposed $1T military budget would go to just four companies who have spent $103B in taxpayer dollars on stock buybacks and dividends over the last decade.

He wants to use your money to make the military-industrial complex even richer.

People are understandably excited about this Samus art, so I just wanted to mention that it’s from a 1994 issue of Nintendo Power.

It also states that she is canonically 6’3” and 200lbs, which it what lead to early speculation that Samus is a trans women (which was later confirmed by a designer)

If you don't want to buy books from amazon the ethical solutions are: 1) buy the books elsewhere 2) get them from a library 3) get them from an e-book library 4) read your friends copy. Authors get paid per book sold. Stolen book = stolen labor.

It’s so cool to have hitched your wagon 20 years ago to an industry that was booming beyond anyone’s expectations and have it turn out to be stripmined and utterly hollowed out by Shareholder Value, and every other industry you could slot into has been, surprise, hollowed out by Shareholder Value

Everyone needs to hear this.

- You don’t need that new TV, the old one is fine
-You don’t need that new phone, the old one is fine
-You don’t need more clothes you don’t wear / only wear once
-etc.

Sit out this Holiday season & the 0.1% will find so many “impossible things” are suddenly possible.

Everyone knows data centers use a ton of water.

What hardly anyone knows: they can poison the water that remains.

And in eastern Oregon, Amazon is doing exactly that.
AI’s water problem is worse than we thought

still seeing a lot of that extremely typical thing where, during this administration, people fixate on the pockets of conservatives among asian americans without referencing any real data so it feels important to keep pointing out how wildly unpopular trump’s policies are among us

Exciting news! Thanks to our sale, we've rocketed all the way up to over 4,900 paying subscribers. This means we can cross another goal, a regular columnist, off our list. We plan to sort out the exact specifics in our own time, but for now, who do you think would be a good fit?

Folks, if you can't afford to buy a book you want to read, use your public library. You already pay for it and most librarians are wonderful people who want you to be able to easily access books. And authors get paid and can eat and write more books etc
I did a thread a few weeks ago of "authors link your stuff" & one of my author friends who is one emergency away from being homeless had a massive spike in downloads on Anna's Archive from people *who follow me* complaining about how they are poor & should be allowed to steal from other poor people

NEWS --> BBC confirms to me that they did edit a line out of historian @rutgerbregman.com's speech. It called Trump "the most openly corrupt president in US history."

BBC also confirms this was done on the advice of lawyers. So Trump's threats worked.

First, British Broadcasting Corporation execs resigned after Trump complained about a segment. Now the BBC edited out a line from a historian that was critical of Trump. Where does this end?

This is what pisses me off about the current higher ed crisis. The humanities always take the fall for structural failures of admin or low enrollment.

We already have to justify our own existences bc STEMy depts and admin refuse to learn what we do!!
Where I work, grad student enrollment in Engineering and Business is down 70% and 40%, respectively.

Now, to cover the loss in revenue from these Departments, the rest of the colleges have to take MASSIVE hits. History Dept alone has cut/closed 6 TT lines. Forget about raises or salary equity. 🫠
Enrollment by international students from China dropped by 3 percent, from India by 4 percent, and enrollment from students from Mexico has flatlined. Here are the likely consequences for Texas' education and economy:
