Big, fat snowflakes fall down, heavy and sticky and wet, ruining the ground around her. If Ed was twenty years younger and cared less about her jacket she’d think about snow angels. As it is now, she looks out to the freezing sea and prays for the winter to last forever. She doesn’t romanticize it. There’s nothing heavenly about the snow— it’s tangible, cold. If she jumped in the water right now, the blood in her veins would freeze and she’d sink to the bottom like someone’s discarded apple core. She likes it. Winter means that she won’t be reminded of summer. She hasn’t seen Stede since the summer.

went to a feminist poetry night tonight and read planetarium by adrienne rich, and want by joan larkin, and a poem by me! and i shook the whole time was very scary but it was such a loving atmosphere and one of my faves said that she loved my poem and i just love writers and community and friends!

“I’m fine,” Stede says before Ed can even greet him. “Let me out of here.” His tone is too offended for a man whose only constraint is a soft, down duvet. “No, man.” Ed tosses back. “Here.” He extends the water to Stede. “Drink.” “No.” Stede argues. “Don’t tell me what to do.” “Stede—” “No, honestly Ed, don’t waste your time, I’m fine. I just need to get a grip." The words don’t sound like his. They come out harsh and bitter, and Stede’s face wrinkles up at it. If this was a different scenario Ed would walk away, give him the space he needs to process… whatever’s going on, before coming back to tell him how wrong he is. But. The way his eyes are wide, chin locked, hands tense and gripping the blanket… Ed knows. “Baby,” Ed says, softly. “Who said that to you?” “Nobody,” Stede argues, quickly. “Nobody. It’s just the truth. I can’t stop everything because I’m feeling a little bit bad. It doesn’t work like that.” Despite never meeting the man, Ed knows Stede’s dad well. Stede’s never let him go. His words hang heavy in times where Stede’s already down— kicked fucking puppy— and Ed knows the feeling. His parents voice’s echo around his own head all the time, but he’s learned to rationalize, shake them out. When Stede’s feeling small, he’s right back there, right back in that house with the taunting and the blood and the diminishments— Ed knows what to do. He can give Stede a re-do.

this page of izzy hands' diary was actually recovered....
izzys opening monologue from s1e6. it is written in early modern english so as to be period-accurate. there is a crossed out heart with "ET + IH" written in it. at the bottom are two stick drawings: one is of izzy stabbing stede (who is crying and bleeding out). an arrow pointing at izzy says "me (real pirate)" and another at stede saying "stupid twat". the second drawing is of ed with his arm on izzys shoulder, stede dead behind them. an arrow pointing at ed and iz says "partners in crime". it is important to note that izzy draws himself taller than stede and only slightly shorter than ed.
