Big, fat snowflakes fall down, heavy and sticky and wet, ruining the ground around her. If Ed was twenty years younger and cared less about her jacket she’d think about snow angels. As it is now, she looks out to the freezing sea and prays for the winter to last forever. She doesn’t romanticize it. There’s nothing heavenly about the snow— it’s tangible, cold. If she jumped in the water right now, the blood in her veins would freeze and she’d sink to the bottom like someone’s discarded apple core.

She likes it. Winter means that she won’t be reminded of summer. She hasn’t seen Stede since the summer.

Summary:
Ed lies in the aftermath. Stede’s asleep on his arm. In a few minutes it’ll go numb. He tries to cherish the time. They washed the sheets yesterday, so Stede made them fuck on the couch.

wip wmonday... oh what do u think this could be about... (also so stuck with this fic idk if you'll ever see it but if u see anything let it be stede wrapped in a blanket little pout on his face ed wrapped around him kissing his forehead every thirty seconds for temperature purposes) 🍼

“I’m fine,” Stede says before Ed can even greet him. “Let me out of here.” His tone is too offended for a man whose only constraint is a soft, down duvet.

“No, man.” Ed tosses back. “Here.” He extends the water to Stede. “Drink.”

“No.” Stede argues. “Don’t tell me what to do.”

“Stede—”

“No, honestly Ed, don’t waste your time, I’m fine. I just need to get a grip."

The words don’t sound like his. They come out harsh and bitter, and Stede’s face wrinkles up at it. If this was a different scenario Ed would walk away, give him the space he needs to process… whatever’s going on, before coming back to tell him how wrong he is.

But.

The way his eyes are wide, chin locked, hands tense and gripping the blanket…

Ed knows.

“Baby,” Ed says, softly. “Who said that to you?”

“Nobody,” Stede argues, quickly. “Nobody. It’s just the truth. I can’t stop everything because I’m feeling a little bit bad. It doesn’t work like that.”

Despite never meeting the man, Ed knows Stede’s dad well. Stede’s never let him go. His words hang heavy in times where Stede’s already down— kicked fucking puppy— and Ed knows the feeling. His parents voice’s echo around his own head all the time, but he’s learned to rationalize, shake them out. When Stede’s feeling small, he’s right back there, right back in that house with the taunting and the blood and the diminishments—

Ed knows what to do. He can give Stede a re-do.

Ed perks up. “Yeah, okay. We could like, go to town, or something.”

Stede sighs. “We do that all the time.”

He’s acting fucking weird. “You’re acting fucking weird.”

Stede wrinkles his nose at that.

“Stede,” Ed prods, and it comes out softer than he expected. He hears fear in his voice that’s never really been present with Stede. “Why are you being an asshole?”

Summary:

The snow might be good. For all the intruders who might come find them, at least he’d be able to see where they come from. The birds are mostly gone, but the chickadees are loud enough to give warning. Ed’s rehearsed the fake battle in his mind so many times he can see it as a near memory.

or: the thoughts that karma might catch up with ed and stede at the inn are suddenly too much for ed to bear.

@Batman: it wasn't a romantic relationship, and when people like you ship every two guys who have a bond it makes men that have a bond with another worry about being forced into a perspective of yours. just because two guys share a bond does not make them lovers, same with two women, same with a guy and a woman. it's weird to ship people based off of platonic actions, love is a spectrum, stop forcing people into categories it's weird.
