Imagine if people treated Psycho, A Fist Full Of Dollars, Deadpool, and Stalker as if they were all just Movies and self identified as being part of the Generic Movie Fandom. That's basically how people act about anime all the time.
"anime" being a sort of catch-all term leads to very funny instances where youtubers will recommend deep thought-provoking artistic pieces and "This Was Made For A 15 Year Old To Get Horny At" shows in the same breath. It feels like gassing up twin peaks and an MTV reality show at the same time

Bought myself my first Magic ever deck to play commander with my buddy.
Very bravely I got a deck with mechanics way more complex that My usual green deck in MTG Arena.
I am going to lose so bad this Friday dude. As long as I get one of my Mechs in the board I will consider it a victory.

I would care more about legal availability of anime streams if it felt like these streams contribute more to the artists/studios that work on such shows.
But it seems right now, this is an issue of convenience for the watcher. And, honestly, there's a surprisingly easy solution for that.
