Some allies' ambassadors might want to check in with the Pentagon to confirm that extended deterrence is still a thing. The NDS leaves some room for doubt.
Elsewhere the NDS explicitly repudiates the concept of alliance commitments in general, much less those backed by a U.S. nuclear guarantee. They are not hiding the ball here. 6/7

I've had this same experience talking with US strategic experts who are convinced that the British and French nuclear capacities are "trivial." You then learn that the Americans are grotesquely misinformed about what those capacities are... as if they were guided by propaganda, not intel.

Reminder: All it would take to end the murder of American citizens by an untrained government goon squad is 16 Republicans in Congress voting with Dems to defund ICE (or 23 to impeach and remove Trump — 3 in House & 20 in Senate). That’s it. 23 Americans can vote for the public and end all of this.

This is what Russia does to the most vulnerable Ukrainian civilians.

The man in the photo is 88 years old. He is bedridden and depends on an oxygen machine which cannot work because there's no electricity after Russian strikes.

The story is not that there are two conflicting versions of what happened.
The story is that the federal government is lying about what happened.
There is plenty of evidence.
Your job, our job, is to sift that evidence and describe what actually happened ffs.

So important. What they say is not the story. That is never the story. What happened is the story. Write what happened.

Treat the US government and ICE claims like you'd treat a Russian government claim after they've shot down an airliner or bombed a hospital. America 2026.

Ultimately you're not supposed to believe it. It not mattering is the point. The bolder the lie, the greater the impunity. The ultimate victory for evil is not convincing you, it's the truth being irrelevant.
We’re supposed to believe this is a domestic terrorist attacking ICE with a gun

Absolutely cracking work here from Jim's team. I defend the BBC a lot, but when a small team is doing really solid work like this while BBC London is doing puff pieces about the Wicked films, it really does make you wonder what's gone wrong with the big news outlets.

While the British media is full of Trump’s comments on its NATO soldiers, German media and some politicians debate if it should withdraw the country’s gold from the New York Federal Reserve. 1,236 tonnes of 3,550 tonnes are held there (37 percent). The gov’t says it has no plans to do so.

Her tone for ‘Are you crazy?’ is perfect. It really should go viral.

They ARE crazed, and repugnant.

Gavin Newsom just announced that California will be the first state to join the World Health Organization.

This is in direct defiance of Donald Trump, who just pulled the United States out of the organization.

Old joke truer then ever

A large russian patrol is marching through the snowy woods near the border when they hear a voice shouting from behind a nearby snowbank:
"One Finnish soldier is better than ten russians!"
Exercise commanders had to ask 🇫🇮 reservists, the most formidable Arctic warriors, who were playing the role of invaders in the war games, to go easy on the Americans. “The Finns had to be told to stop beating the Americans as it was embarrassing and demoralising for them,” a mil source said.”

This is still true after the EP vote for an ECJ opinion on Mercosur: strong external momentum, extremely fragile internal base. Stuff like this makes the whole 'reliable partner in a world of chaos' rhetoric ring hollow. EU can't get geoeconomics right if people keep playing political games with it.
On the other side, the internal face of trade policy has not been able to keep up. Farming interests were always going to play an outsized role in the debate due to their ability to organise – but their dominance in the public debate shows how little energy others invested in shaping this debate.
