So what have I learnt about #misinformation research? I tried to condense it into a list of the 5 biggest challenges the field faces.
Second story in my package of stories about misinformation research is up here (and thread to come):

“In interviews, federal judges called the Supreme Court’s emergency orders “mystical,” “overly blunt,” “incredibly demoralizing and troubling” and “a slap in the face to the district courts.” …Another said the courts were in the midst of a “judicial crisis.””

Always fun to be on the BBC’s science show Unexpected Elements. As an added bonus I got to talk a bit about the color blue this time with @amsterdammed.bsky.social and @andradaf.bsky.social.
Mostly though it was about the topic of “strength”.

MIT President Kornbluth announced on Friday the university “cannot support” Trump’s compact, saying the university disagreed with a number of the principles laid out in the document, including policies that would limit freedom of expression and institutional independence.
MIT President Says ‘We Cannot Support’ Trump’s Compact
The institution’s president, Sally Kornbluth, wrote: The proposal “is inconsistent with our core belief that scientific funding should be based on scientific merit alone.”

Worth remembering however there have been 64 cases including 43 deaths already in this Ebola outbreak including most recently a 3-week-old neonate that died.

Last week, new WaPo opinion editor Adam O'Neal quietly carried out another purge of staffers, cutting editors and major names like Marc Fisher and David Hoffman, among others.

Meanwhile, he welcomed three conservatives to the section.

Post Traumatic Disorder
Adam O’Neal says he’s bringing “intellectual diversity” to The Washington Post’s opinion pages—but the moves he’s making behind the scenes tell a different story.

My new op-ed with @lkfazio.bsky.social:

Trump sent a 'compact' to our universities. They should reject this devil's bargain.
Any institution that yields to these broad and intrusive demands would forever be subservient to the whims of the government.

Game changer for cell-based plant genetics: the labs of Caixia Gao & Jin-Long Qiu have developed very efficient self-replicating vectors and they just published a very nice proof-of-concept paper.

Once again worth pointing out that before Trump came along politicians didn't tell bald-face, easily disprovable lies. They equivocated or shaded, and occasionally told a whopper if they thought no one would ever find out. But Trump's complete disregard for truth is a brand new thing.

Trump: Portland is burning to the ground—insurrectionists all over the place. The politicians are afraid for their lives. That’s the only reason they say there’s nothing happening.
