Obscenely high gas prices are slowly strangling energy intensive manufacturing in Australia

A small number of companies control the gas market & force prices up to the detriment of all gas & electricity consumers

It's way past time for domestic gas reservation

'Obscenely expensive' wholesale gas prices driving manufacturing offshore
Australia has a wealth of coal and gas resources as well as renewable energy, so why are energy costs so high — especially for manufacturers?

The government only gets to sell government real estate assets once. Once sold they are gone from public ownership forever.
How about repurposing and leasing the assets?

Why the backyard sprinkler is on the climate change frontline
Billions of litres of water are sprayed onto household gardens every day during summer, allowing cities to stay green. Now water is running low. Has the sprinkler had its day?

I too, am old enough to remember the chicken littles saying if we had more than 20% renewable energy in the grid at any one time, the grid would collapse.
As we surge past 50% of total power being produced by renewables, where are those naysayers?
www.smh.com.au/politics/fed...
For the first time, renewable energy is supplying most of our power
Renewables became the dominant energy supply for an entire quarter in the final three months of last year, helping the grid skate through the early days of a scorching summer.

That screenshot is from the 2026 draft ISP. Even simple modelling like below from @davidosmond.bsky.social shows we need some gas in winter.

Whether it's 10GW or 14GW doesn't matter that much right now, the main thing is we keep building out renewables, especially wind.

bsky.app/profile/davi...
Thread: Each week I run a simulation of Australia’s main electricity grid using rescaled generation data to show that it can get very close to 100% renewable electricity with 24GW/120GWh of storage (5 hrs at av demand)
Results:
Last week: 89.7% RE
Last 199 weeks: 98.6% RE (1/5)

Journalists and politicians are basically losing any moral reaction to child abuse because they now digitally reside inside an app that creates that abuse
In the spirit of brotherly love, could I gently enquire why the almighty **** are government departments, government ministers and Labour MPs *STILL* using X?
