Obscenely high gas prices are slowly strangling energy intensive manufacturing in Australia

A small number of companies control the gas market & force prices up to the detriment of all gas & electricity consumers

It's way past time for domestic gas reservation

'Obscenely expensive' wholesale gas prices driving manufacturing offshore
Australia has a wealth of coal and gas resources as well as renewable energy, so why are energy costs so high — especially for manufacturers?

Inpex quietly admitted that its Ichthys LNG project drastically underreported its emissions of the cancer-causing chemical benzene by more than 13,000%.

The gas industry is continuing to harm our health and our climate, yet our governments are failing to act.

Global renewable capacity is on track to more than double over the next five years – led by solar PV

But as renewables' role in power systems grows, the sector is facing growing headwinds, from supply chain pressures to grid integration challenges

Santos has been an awful investment
It has delivered a total return (inc. dividends) of -2.1 per cent over the past three years, while the MSCI world energy index (ex Australia) has delivered 20.9 per cent.
Questions are being asked of the validity of their accounts

Here’s the next point of tension between Santos and its investors
Beyond the leadership and governance questions that have followed the CFO’s exit is an issue that has burned brightly over the company for years: underperformance.

With all the palava over yet another failed takeover offer for Santos, it can't go unnoticed that the Chief financial officer has resigned.
It all looks distinctly smelly.
The market should concentrate on the carrying value of assets.
Are there big write-offs in the pipeline?

Inpex has been under-reporting cancer-causing emissions from its Icthys LNG plant in Darwin, as reported this week in The Australian.

The people of Darwin deserve answers, and real action to protect their health.

That's right folks, focus on the real story (LNP is moribund): ~80% of Australia's contribution to global carbon emissions is embodied in fossil fuel exports

This is VERY good news. Rarely does the media discuss the extreme danger that methane poses due to its short term effect on climate. The story is always re Carbon but methane turbo charges climate breakdown and is not being effectively monitored.
Gas demand forecast to plummet by the Treasury of the Australian government.

"Treasury sees output from the gas industry falling by 27-29 per cent between now and 2035, and by 67-68 per cent to 2050"

The Treasury is, as usual, very conservative.

This is a great cartoon of the illogical narratives I hear refuting climate warming. As I have said many times, it's not "either/or" when it comes to natural variability and human contributions, it's "both/and." Grass grows naturally and it grows differently when you fertilize the lawn....
