Will @govmurphy.bsky.social cap his last term, by signing the country's most punitive e-bike laws in the country?

Cyclists shouldn't go through red lights because there was a guy on a really nice looking bike, but then the traffic cleared and he left while I was crossing the street, before I could get a good look at the bike.

On Sunday I was eating ice cream sundaes with my son when he asked me and mom what ICE was. I stammered my way through an answer, not knowing that on the other side of town ICE was capturing people off the streets. Thanks to NJ.com for letting me write about it. www.nj.com/opinion/2026...
I told my blond 6-year-old he’d be OK. Down the street, ICE took away another 6-year-old’s ‘papi’
No one in New Jersey should spend any more time pretending ICE tearing families apart is far away.

I want to be clear here that fascistic regimes don't really need a pretext to kill people who oppose them. But we make it a whole lot easier when we force everyone into a 4,000 pound vehicle that governments can credibly claim could be weaponized at any moment, or not, as suits their purposes.
When the Government Says You're 'Weaponizing' Your Car — Streetsblog USA
Immigrations and Customs Enforcement officers have been brutalizing and killing people who they perceive as threats. Is mass automobility multiplying their pretext to do it?

Nine years ago today — January 9, 2017 — was the last time Hoboken had a traffic death.

Universal daylighting works. New Yorkers deserve the same protections as our neighbors across the Hudson River. Hundreds of New Yorkers die in preventable crashes every year. That has to end.

Senator Scutari's grossly irresponsible e-bike bill has advanced again, despite being a knee-jerk reaction to 2 women being murdered by a man using a car as a weapon. It would criminalize e-bike riders and discourage safe and sustainable transport, and it must be stopped.

They called the woman trying to turn her car around a “rioter” who committed an “act of domestic terrorism.”

I get really mad when people advocate vehicular cycling because it is an ableist approach that relies on a baseline amount of speed and skill, which many do not have. Bike lanes — especially protected ones — allow people of all abilities to bike or roll (like wheelchair users).
In the past, I was one of those cyclists who would ride in full traffic and take the lane. I did ride with a hammer on hand in case a car came too close. Now I am 60, and I am no longer able to ride like that. It is only because of bike lanes that I can ride a bike these days. More bike lanes NOW
