anyway one of the reasons I posted this is that actually lots of people in lots of situations appreciate being affirmed or supported by masculinity, and it’s not necessarily sexual although it is definitely gendered, and I think the Discourse loses sight of that from time to time.
tangential but a nice memory I feel like sharing is once I was on a plane with a bunch of turbulence and the 50something stranger next to me was clearly having a hard time and I asked her if she wanted to hold my hand and she clamped on so hard she left nail marks.
Unpopular opinion: I know it's cool to wear your earbuds and carry a book while pasting a disinterested, don't-talk-to-me expression on your face, but I like to talk to the person sitting beside me on airplanes. I liked it when we were willing to be inconvenienced by strangers.
