Trans people exist. Nonbinary people exist. Gender and sex and biology are wonderful chaotic messes.

And the biggest threat to cis women's safety and dignity in 2025 is the globally coordinated far right movement which seeks to Handmaid's Tale us all

On top of everything, this plays *terribly* to National's base. Their politics is rooted in might-is-right, we-have-power-because-we're-better-than-you ideology and they've spent two years insisting that they are incredibly weak

Not just weak, getting-bossed-around-by-utter-git-David-Seymour weak

My extremely niche joke is that this bit of the curriculum rewrite was handled by a fan of @manyatruenerd.bsky.social's Rome: Total War playthrough

except that making kids watch MATN's Rome: Total War playthrough would probably be more educational than this government's curriculum rewrite
Do you know about the importance of hoplites?

Of course you do. Everyone knows the importance of hoplites.

Do you (be honest this time) know what hoplites *are?*

No, you probably didn’t. (1/25)

So ... the government just forced us all to have referendums on *existing* Māori wards because Local Communities Deserve Choice, but now they're unilaterally abolishing our regional councils because they don't like the Choices we made?

really is incredible how often "men are having a problem, let's fix it using someone else's entire life" comes up. does the institute for family studies understand that children are whole complete human beings whose existence cannot be used as a coping mechanism for their fathers' anxieties? (no)

The thing is, taking a strong stand in defence of trans people's rights isn't just the correct moral thing to do. It's also the politically smart thing to do.

Absolutely agreed. Greens have just committed to "timely, free, non-discriminatory access to all forms of gender-affirming healthcare based on informed consent and self-determination" - it shouldn't be hard for labour to make that commitment.

No matter what the politicians say, this is discrimination. Look at how the regulation is worded: This is not a ban on its use for a particular indication, it's a ban for a population.

"Labour are splitting the vote by running against Green candidates!!!" no they aren't, you KNOW how MMP works, and this is a shit argument when it's the other way around, so it's also a shit argument now

So in a few month's time when the govt is telling you the social media under 16 age ban is to protect children, remember that they don't actually care about children's safety. They don't care about trans kids. They don't care about tamariki Māori. They don't care about feeding kids. #nzpol

If they can ban access to healthcare like puberty blockers for one group of people, they can do this with any healthcare for their next target. They will ban abortion again given the chance and they will come after contraception after that. The anti-choice movement is our govt right now. #nzpol
