This is not a small thing. It's <the> thing. The entire ballgame. For all of 🇺🇸's many faults, we have done this better than ~anyone else for ~forever now, & we're going to do it again, & the people who don't like this are eventually going to lose again.
It's a small thing, but it fills me with civic pride to walk through the giant park near my house and see Hmong families having cookouts, Somali parents pushing their laughing kids on the swings.

Like, here are people who've endured horrors, and my city has welcomed them in to build peaceful lives.
Yes. My theory of the moment is Miller/Vance thought their view that immigrants threaten social solidarity would be widely shared. But ICE raids are driving native-born Americans to show solidarity with immigrants quite courageously. Now Miller is trying to disrupt that alliance with state violence.

There are anti-ICE signs on every business, every streetlight, every blank wall, in half the windows. Everyone is wearing anti-ICE clothing. No one talks about anything else, at the bus stop, at work, at the bars and restaurants, at the store.

We are watching one of the wildest things a nation-state has ever done: A superpower is committing suicide because the GOP Congress is too cowardly to stand up to the Mad King.

This is one of the wildest moments in all of geopolitics ever.

Literally everyone who even vaguely knew what a tariff was said this when they were introduced! You don’t need a team of economists to analyze the situation — no one who lives in reality was confused by this!
“Foreign exporters absorbed only 4% of last year’s U.S. tariff increases by lowering prices, while American consumers and importers absorbed 96%.

“Rather than acting as a tax on foreign producers, the tariffs functioned as a consumption tax on Americans.”

Just crazy that Republicans are still +9 on national security given Trump's black-bagging of Maduro and threats to seize Greenland (let alone the legacy of Iraq and Afghanistan). He's threatening to destroy NATO, for crying out loud.

trump and his republican party are infected with the same death cult imperialism that brought the world to cataclysm twice in the twentieth century. there's no reasonable sane sensible foreign policy way of dressing up this "strategic logic." history is explicit: this is madness.

One of the worst features of political journalism and analysis in the Trump era. Remember the key quote: "The former official said he doesn't think Trump is playing 'the sort of three-dimensional chess people ascribe to decisions like this. More often than not he's just eating the pieces.'"
Institutionalized #CleverFallacy. If you tell smart people to explain the underlying logic of something, they'll find one whether it has anything to do with what Trump is up to or, almost always, not.
Note how NYT continues to do "analysis" focused on Trump as a rational actor in international relations matters. He isn't. And treating him this way is dangerous sane washing.
