Hey #KubeCon, be extra kind to the staff today. One of them I chatted with yesterday whispered to me that people were giving them a hard time today

I grew up intensely bullied and learned not to care what others thought about me early on.

Learning to be myself took a while and the more I have the better the people I associate are.

Life is better when you care about the right people's opinions and ignore everyone else. Learning how is worth it
I don’t have a whole lot of advice for people younger than me but the earlier in life you stop worrying about what other people will think and just wholeheartedly enjoy the stuff you like the happier you’ll be
One thing people kind of tell you, but not really, about middle age:

One day you'll be like "oh [thing] looks fun but people will think I'm a loser" about a thing

And then you'll say. Wait a second.

Fuck 'em

A coworker and I used to listen to this song on repeat for literally hours and I imagine we drove our coworkers nuts but we absolutely got a ton of work done and bonded over this song:
Help me convince @offline.mountainherder.xyz to let me put a bumper sticker on our car, specifically this one

This is an important point; when working on your inclusivity outreach I highly recommend talking to the trans/non-binary community as part of your efforts and listening to how they want to be invited.

The folks you're after are much more likely to support your mission if you do so.
If you want to have a gathering for women, call it a gathering for women. If you want to have a gathering for women & non-binary people, call it a gathering for women & non-binary people. If you want to make non-binary people sad, call it the Women’s Community Gathering and put us in the fine print

One thing I've learned is that it's okay to talk about the basics and people really appreciate it when you do a good job explaining them.

What's "basic" to me isn't to them (and vice versa) so trade knowledge freely and make us all better.

This is the message of a failed, feckless, and leaderless party. We need a party with backbone, and the only path to it is through a cleansing primary season. If your Dem is up for reelection, and you aren't damn sure they're fighting the fascists with everything they've got, primary the bastard.

Today is a great day to do something fun or rewarding (like that chore you've been putting off) and feeling something different.

Remember to feed your mind the way you feed your body. Speaking of which; have you eaten? Had a glass of water? Real water, not just liquid.

Take good care of yourself.

State prisons in the U.S. that are massive systems of human rights violations.

Not to add to the “is having a boyfriend embarrassing” discourse, but there are other reasons for women keeping their male partners off their feeds. Years ago, I made the mistake of sharing a poem I wrote for my fiancé and tagging him. The result was people harassing him, an introverted reserved guy

I cannot stress enough how far it goes to simply acknowledge existing challenges and the hard work of your teammates and partners you work with.

When you do that, you’re letting them know that you see them as a human, not a resource.

The world would be immensely better if more religions and their believers had even a tenth of the dedication the Sikhs do to doing good for people with no gatekeeping or expectations of anything other than "you are a fellow human in need and we can help you"
Folks, if you are hungry, please contact your local Sikh gurdwara. Or just show up for langar, which most gurdwaras do several times a week, for a free meal. Lots also do weekly or monthly drives giving out groceries.

No conversion necessary. Feeding anyone who is hungry is a key part of Sikhism.
A lady on TikTok has been calling churches pretending to be a mother with a baby who needs formula and several churches turned her away. But wouldn’t you know that when she called a Mosque (Islamic Center of Charlotte) they immediately said yes.
