content warning for audio/engine programmers
When will Windows let audio work. You plug in a controller and it whispers "you will never hear anything ever again, pig" directly in your ear as everything shuts down for no reason. If you try using VR the sound starts coming from your car. Editing in two windows? Audio plays backward, fuck you.

Also sometimes when you forget to unplug your gamepad, on a fresh boot, the gamepad won't function And, clicking your start menu will cause the gamepad to vibrate and then immediately close your start menu

Sickos dot jpg: what if I just used the git-p4 bridge and then inited a colocated jj repo in there, none would be the wiser

and then why even bother with sparse/task streams if you don't need to collaborate on a change
Been reading/watching jj vcs stuff, and it's fun to see various reactions to the "inverted" workflow (describe commit, add to it). I'm so used to the idea of a WIP commit because of p4, that the idea that there's something with git's flexibility but has p4 CLs only better is such an clear W to me

Apparently Linkedin will be using your accounts data to train copolit. should probably nuke that lunatic sit or at least opt out of it
LinkedIn gives you until Monday to stop AI from training on your profile
If you thought your postings on LinkedIn were safe from the AI-training arms race, think again.

Love that thanks to all the deregulation from overturning Chevron and demolishing regulatory bodies I’m here on a lovely Sunday seeing if my makeup wipes’ lot is included in the recall for the ones that have SEPSIS CAUSING BACTERIA www.nbcnews.com/select/shopp...
Recall alert: These popular face wipes may contain harmful bacteria

To be clear: I'm credited in EQ2, it's just mobygames not having it
LRT: I like how my mobygames page has the silly Deepak Chopra kinetic project I was an intern on in college and contributed effectively nothing to, but not the two EverQuest 2 expansions I worked on as 1 of 3 engineers supporting designers by adding gameplay scripting features and UI updates.

Big agree. I've worked on many Microsoft titles such as Halo: MCC and their credits were only on a web page which was later moved then removed. I recall the game linking to a broken webpage forever. For Microsoft Flight Sim I was lead QA Software Engineer for the Maverick DLC. That is not credited
Everyone who worked on a video game needs to be in the credits:

The blogger I'm replying to here unfortunately is leaning on AI, but the principle of reduction to a min repro is good

If LLMs weren't an energy & copyright disaster & was aimed at analyzing difficult bugs instead of pooping out bad startup apps & disrespecting artists then AI might have been cool
Zig has a subcommand called "reduce" which is used to help generate minimal repros for miscompiles

It operates on a similar principle but is a little more narrowly targeted and doesn't use an LLM to perform reductions since it understands itself and can do some more systematic transformations

the powers that be want you to know less about your computer. they are taking away your beautiful file pathing, keyboard inputs, considered mouse clicks, and expertise of your OS. everything will soon be done by mumbling into the open air and praying it works correctly. this is a nightmare.
This is the future of Windows. Microsoft wants to rewrite Windows to turn computers into AI PCs that you talk to. It's now bringing AI features to all Windows 11 PCs today, in a bid to convince you to talk to your PC and let AI control it. Full details 👇 www.theverge.com/news/799768/...
