This is an appreciation post to celebrate "Olivia," (no CS rep actually uses their real name, especially not if they're ♀️) the actual human customer service rep who spent two days via email & phone trying to help me figure out why a coupon code wasn't working & applying it manually from her end.

I am currently more than a little obsessed with the Vermont Country Store's selection of grandma candy. I only wish they had reception sticks in the mix.

(My top is technically black, but "Black Fritz" is all kinds of nope.)

Wondering if the #kidlit community can point me towards more recent bilingual English-Spanish picture books? Our school library has some older ones, but I’d like to refresh it for the kids who’d benefit.

Not directly related to Mullins's cruel, ignorant opinion, but health care companies should be forbidden from operating as for-profit entities, much less trading on the stock market. Results should be measured in terms of health outcomes, not dividends to stock holders.
Markwayne Mullin: "Reward people for being healthy. Think about this. Healthcare is the only industry that you're not rewarded for taking care of your responsibility. If you think about homeowners insurance, if you're within 500 feet of a fire hydrant, your insurance goes down."

Cyclist turns down trans exclusionary honour for woman cyclists (and you can feel the BBC’s teeth grinding about it).

Public transit should be free everywhere.
“Iowa City eliminated bus fares in August 2023 with a goal of lowering emissions… The two-year pilot program proved so popular that the City Council voted this summer to extend it another year, paying for it with a 1% increase in utility taxes and by doubling most public parking rates to $2 from $1”

This is one of my favorite comics stores in the entire country, and due to the pandemic and some other issues, it is asking for a bit of help. I hope you go look and spread the word, donate a little bit (or a lot) if you can.

I'm going to donate some in the morning, hope you will consider it, too.

Have a plan to help your kids and their friends vote this November. You can take them to DQ afterwards like old times!
GOP states are restricting youth voting by
-requiring strict in-person ID for registering + voting, explicitly excluding college-issued IDs
-locating poll sites far from campuses + targeting on-campus locations
-limiting + sanctioning third-party voter reg orgs

That sounds less like a warning than a promise.
AI advocates have warned that if every author in the class action filed a claim, it would "financially ruin" the entire industry.
