"The books in this series have been absolute orgies of comfort reading, brimming with sparkling banter and the kind of heart-rending angst you can drown in." -- @oliviawaite.com on Carrigan's Christmasland

it is disorienting when you lose someone who you navigate your life to, like a star blinking out of the night sky.
a life lived in fearlessness, she carved out space for so many of us.
an amazing woman.

Things my (almost) 10 year old has said to me this long weekend:
Mom do you want to see Sauron driving a tiny kitty car?
Can we snuggle and watch Bob Ross?
Before you woke up I was making giant spiders out of inanimate objects in my mind.

“One of the chants that has become ubiquitous at these protests at Broadview is, ‘Love your neighbor, love your God, save your soul and quit your job,’” said Black, who pastors at the First Presbyterian Church of Chicago. “Everybody chants that.”

This week in 1988: 1,000+ ACT UP demonstrators shut down the FDA headquarters, demanding (and eventually winning) action on developing HIV/AIDS treatments. ACT UP's militant and creative actions always included powerful visual artwork, and paved the way for movements in the decades to come.
A photograph from the 1988 ACT UP demonstration outside the FDA. Many people are participating in a die-in on the front steps, holding mock tombstones with messages like "RIP - killed by the FDA" and "Dead from lack of drugs." A line of police officers (some with classic 80s mustaches) wearing riot helmets stands between them and the building; one cop wearing white gloves is walking through the demonstrators. Affixed to the 2nd story windows of the building is a series of posters and a large blank banner reading Silence = Death.

Amazon just tried to recommend my own book to me ("you might like this!" Yeah I do actually) which is how I found out that Season of Love is on KU right now.

Thinking about this National Coming Out Day, 28 years after the first of thousands of times I came out, and I just think it's extraordinary luck. Of all the things I could have been in this life, I get to be queer.

I'm not done yet but so far I very highly recommend!

Yesterday I was told that the class I’m scheduled to teach this month, Confronting Oppression & Injustice, is no longer part of our curriculum. This is a required class yet there was no discussion, no faculty vote, just an email saying the class no longer exists. This is what it’s like in Texas now.

Relatedly I would be sadder about Diane Keaton if she had not decided to spend all the capital of her legacy on defending a dude who married his own kid 🤷
blumagaincurios.bsky.social
The thing about Diane Keaton is that it should have been Woody Allen.

Just a reminder that Banned Books Week isn’t about selling more copies of 1984. It’s about keeping authors and teachers and librarians safe and making sure all of us have the freedom to read widely. www.publishersweekly.com/pw/by-topic/...

Happy 3 year anniversary to my first book coming out on National Coming Out Day. I love you, Season of Love. I still think you should have been called My First Noelle.

Usually the line that sticks with me (and the reason I put the soundtrack on, because I'm noodling on a book idea) is "you have to go on living so one of us is living."

Ah-ha but my kid is home with strep so I can cry in peace! (Yay??)

I didn't even know I'm was sad until Spike started to sing and I started to cry! My body was just like yeah we've reached max capacity.

Interested acquaintance: how are you holding up with everything?
Me: This morning on the way to work I cried alone in the car because of Rest in Peace from the Buffy musical. So.

But also I knew that friend who told me to write Season of Love from library twitter way back in the day. That's also how I met one of my closest writer friends, who pushed me to stick out the querying process.

All my careers and friends are from Twitter 😭

I tweeted about a book plot + a friend encouraged me to write it. That book got me an agent via dvpit on Twitter. That series made me a USA Today Bestseller.

Also a group of colleagues + I created a training for storytime librarians that's been used around the world. RIP Twitter.
