This. For those of us living in red places, I’d be thrilled if my friends and neighbors would wake up, even late.
Some people are waking up late. That delay matters, and the harm doesn’t vanish. But truth spoken now is still better than truth never spoken.

We should be honest: there is also a hard minority for whom this was never confusion, only character. They saw it. They chose it. They are not coming back.

The Washington Post just laid off its entire award-winning photo team. They were our eyes in places we'll never see. It's a horrifying loss at a time when lying governments, propaganda and AI slop are on the rise.

Judge Biery signed the order with a photo of Liam and two bible verses: The first is "But Jesus said, Suffer little children, and forbid them not, to come unto me: for of such is the kingdom of heaven." The second is simply "Jesus wept."

Astonishing thing for a judge to do.

It’s very similar to the extremist Christians trying to bring about the end times. They don’t care about the consequences of their actions because they believe everything will end in glorious (for them) fire before they live to see consequences.

...An Instagram commenter wrote: 'She’s so natural with it too like it’s not even cringe.'"
Alison Luchs, who has worked at the National Gallery of Art for 47 years, agreed to learn Gen Z slang and make videos because she wanted to raise interest in the museum’s art.

She never expected to slay. https://wapo.st/45BXc3S

If you *must* get the I-told-you-sos out of your system, you have many good options. Bitch to your friends, scream it into the abyss, roll your eyes when you are off screen on zoom.

You don't have to hold it in, just be thoughtful about how you let it out. And then shake it off and move forward.
We need everyone we can get in this fight against a fascist takeover.

If your first instinct to someone being politically mobilized by all this is to give them a sneering "well, what took you so long?" you don't actually care about our winning this; you just want to be able to say you were right.

An experimental finding sure to shock: white evangelicals are especially attuned to slights against Christians, but significantly less likely to view same actions as discriminatory when against a religious out-group. And this double-standard is unique to white evangelicals. doi.org/10.1111/jssr...

I keep thinking “my god the people they’ve killed seem like exceptionally good folks” and I think the lesson there is that they’re not exceptional, but that wonderful people abound and that a baseline distrust in humanity is a shitty conservative trope that privileges power over collective strength
you don't become a martyr because you were a saint, you become a saint because you were martyred
I agree that we can’t make Alex Pretti a Benedictine monk because that’s a trap, but we can talk about the good things we did because people will see and hear them and think “I do those things too”
