Erik Alarcon, whose uncle and cousin were detained in Tuesday's operation, says the family had planned to gather for Thanksgiving next week. Now, they’re trying to figure out where their relatives were taken and whether they can contact them.

Tariffs are a drag but also a tiny part of the economy. Things like dissembling science and higher education will manifest in depressed long-run growth not in a current unemployment spike.

Here's one way of thinking about it: Do you think that Trump or his lieutenants would balk at killing political opponents? Do you think any of them would have moral or ideological objections?

Threats against lawmakers are not speech; they are coercion designed to freeze the functioning of government. If Congress can’t advise the military without fear of execution, then checks and balances are dead. The House and Senate must formally censure this attack. Call your representative now.

Walking and biking are “traditional transportation” and infrastructure that supports and promotes traditional modes of transportation is traditional infrastructure.
The highest-ranking transportation congressman is saying that biking & walking paths aren't "traditional infrastructure" and don't deserve funding in the next federal transportation bill. Broke down why that's historically inaccurate, morally wrong, and *possible to defeat* — if we organize.
House T&I Chair Vows ‘No Money for Bikes or Walking’ in Fed Transportation Bill — Streetsblog USA
The outlook for active transportation won't be good if advocates don't stand up.

Before the midterms of 1866, President Andrew Johnson called his congressional opponents traitors and said they should be hanged.

Voters were so profoundly moved by his words... that they gave his opponents a supermajority in Congress, and the nation got the Fourteenth Amendment.

At some point, Musk realized manipulating public perception was more lucrative than delivering affordable EVs, and when that made him the richest man alive he pulled tens of billions out and dumped it into new, more powerful propaganda tools: Twitter and XAI.

This is just what he does...

Sorting through my memories of everything that happened on Tuesday, and reflecting on how some of the first phone calls I got and first people I saw onsite were union leaders in Saint Paul. I don’t know that unions ever get the credit they deserve for showing up for ALL workers, all the time.

Not mentioned in the story, but consistent with its findings:

Duffy has sat on USDOT's plan to address car bloat. A 2024 proposal would've required carmakers to adjust their front end designs to reduce the risk of deadly "head-hood" collisions.

Info: www.fastcompany.com/91195993/car...
NEW: Sean Duffy frequently calls safety his “top priority” as transportation secretary. But I spent months wading through regulatory notices and found something far different: that USDOT has been delaying, weakening and killing dozens of safety rules, many opposed by the transportation industry.🧵

Even if you can’t donate, you should read the story of one of the people kidnapped from their workplace in St Paul on Tuesday.

This is why we should try to stop every kidnapping. No criminal record. Just racism. They’re breaking up families.

It’s been almost 48 hours and we still don’t know with certainty how many people were detained on Tuesday, the grounds (if any) on which they’re being held, or what will happen next for these members of our community—all of whom have families and friends and people who love them.

This isn’t normal.

How awful. This is outright health disinformation, lying to the American people. Not only is there massive evidence showing no link between vaccines & autism, there’s not even a plausible mechanism based on what we’ve learned about the genetics of autism, some environmental exposures in pregnancy
HEADS UP: CDC website now officially asserts that vaccines may cause autism.“Studies supporting a link have been ignored by health authorities.” Also says the “vaccines do not cause autism” header remains b/c of an agreement with Cassidy.

In a new phase 3 trial, people randomly assigned to receive a flu shot made with modified mRNA were 34.5% less likely to be diagnosed with an influenza-like illness than people given a standard flu shot made with inactivated virus.

We need to stop the anti-science attacks against mRNA vaccines!

Hey @metrotransitmn.bsky.social , looks like your police could use some training about not parking their SUVS on sidewalks and fully blocking the Capital City Bikeway. This was taken about 5:15pm this evening. I saw no officers in the vehicles but two standing on the LRT station across the street.

ICE should be abolished for the simple fact that being undocumented is a civil matter, not a criminal one. And if someone does break the law criminally, that's what we have regular police for. We don't need Patriot Act level gestapo on our streets, we never have.

Cycling after dark is part of everyday life here, but it still raises real concerns. This week I look at what helps people feel safe on those night-time rides – from lighting to travelling together.

New post and video.
Cycling safely after dark
We have entered the darker months again, and that inevitably makes cycling a little more precarious. Safety after sunset has two sides: being visible to others and feeling socially safe. As cyclists we cannot lock ourselves in, as one might in a car, so the environment matters all the more. Being visible is straightforward. A working front and rear light, together with the legally required reflectors, is usually enough.
