FFS, folks, nothing in this thread says *anything* about what I expect other actors to do about it. That is a separate question. But before we ask how other institutions will respond to blatant illegality, we first need to make the argument that something is blatantly illegal.

It's increasingly obvious (on TikTok especially) that a lot of people think they are organizing progressive movements on social media when in fact they are essentially hellbanned—it's just a big enough hell that you think you're making a difference.
Do you genuinely think we had a better information ecosystem, say, during the Iraq war when most US media outlets acted as stenographers for the Pentagon and social media had not yet developed to the point where those narratives could be meaningfully challenged?
I'm sorry it's like this, but the reality is that an all-consuming information machine where everyone spends six hours a day, and the messages that go viral are the ones that most effectively validate people's preexisting social resentments, is a machine for creating far-right mob rule.
