New paper out on virus transmission in hospitals. Predictable patterns of airflow on hospital wards explained 3/4 of SARS-CoV-2 transmission events between patients. www.journalofhospitalinfection.com/article/S019...
The role of spatial distance in SARS-CoV-2 nosocomial transmission
The nosocomial transmission of respiratory viruses causes significant disruption to hospital care, but the spatial dynamics of transmission on hospital wards are poorly understood.

The president of the United States thinks asylum-seekers come from mental asylums.

He says it in almost every interview where the topic of migration comes up.

How is this not 25th Amendment territory? How is he not an embarrassment to this entire country?

I’ve played with LLMs a fair amount and noticed something that these studies that show using LLMs degrading intellectual performance may not be picking up: What if having pretty good critical thinking skills makes LLMs less appealing/satisfying to use in the first place?

One of Trump's billionaire buddies just bought Paramount. Now, he wants to buy Warner Bros.

That means one giant company could control almost everything you watch on TV.

Just popped into the Royal Institution for a coffee, to discover they have a lovely display on benzene to mark the bicentenary of Faraday's discovery of it. Here are his notes, his paper, and one of his first samples. Glorious.

NEW: No, Charlie Kirk was not practicing politics the right way. That's what Ezra Klein said. We can condemn this heinous assassination but also recognize that with his 2020 election denialism and extremist rhetoric, Kirk built his movement with falsehoods and in a wrong and divisive manner.
No, Charlie Kirk was not practicing politics the right way
His assassination deserves full condemnation; his full impact should not be sidestepped.

"It's like a PhD in every field!"

"Can it reliably do college-level work, such as accurately identifying and summarizing pertinent information?"

"No."

"So what is really does is sound like an expert to people who aren't experts in that field?"

"Yeah! That's what everyone wants, right?"
Notable that AI tools could not even generate accurate meeting summaries beyond “a couple hundred words.” That’s useless for minutes.

And for lit review they *completely* shit the bed.

But these aren’t people’s favorite tasks & AI is way quicker, so many will keep using them, truth be damned.
I Tested How Well AI Tools Work for Journalism
Some tools were sufficient for summarizing meetings. For research, the results were a disaster.

Being interviewed by Terry Gross ruined all other interviewers for me.

"Well prepared" doesn't even begin to cover it, and she is just so generous in the conversation.

It's like playing tennis with Serena Williams but she only wants to keep the volley going as long as possible.
I love Terry Gross she is a top ten person
