First actual post, I figure should feature the doggos.
Rocket is an American Eskimo dog, and turned 7 earlier this year, is about 20 pounds, and hates storms.
Jet is a lab mix mutt that we rescued, he's about 2 and a half years old, 100 pounds, and has epilepsy.

In my experience, talent is a *detriment* to learning.
I didn't have to practice early on so I *didn't know how*. I didn't start to learn how to practice until my 30s! (When much of my life was taken up with parenting, so I didn't have time!)

I love the philosophy of linguistic quite a bit.
A similar point came up in my English classes back when I was teaching ESL: If another culture creates an English word, is it English?
My go to was "skinship;" an "English" word that only exists in Korea.

Just finished There Is No Antimemetics Division by @qntm.org. Even though I'd read at least some of the early chapters back when it was being serialized on the SCP wiki, it still captivated me from cover to cover. It's the first book I've read cover to cover in under 24h in many years. Love it.

It is my opinion that you could replace the FGC specific terms here with PvP shooter terms and make precisely the same argument for skill based matchmaking. Which is the position I've held for ages. You don't learn how to PvP by getting instantly killed, you learn by fighting someone a bit better.
This is one of the most fundamental underlying problems of perspective with many, if not most people who play fighting games. “People just want to be good at something automatically” is not correct. It’s factually inaccurate. People don’t expect to be “good.” They just don’t like being vaporized.
