Fun fact: pushing back on helplessness can be as easy as hanging out with people
Been thinking about how the hallmark of our generation is a sense of helplessness both politically and personally and how much of that comes from the rise of image-based social media, experiencing life as an unreality. Pushing back on helplessness means in part, pushing back on big tech.

Google Handed ICE Student Journalist’s Bank and Credit Card Numbers
Amandla Thomas-Johnson didn't know how much information ICE requested in a subpoena now. Google never gave him a chance to fight it.

I'll catch up soon.... I'm struggling to integrate knowledge of the 1000+ abductions PER DAY!!!!!
A stunning detail the ICE chief shared in this hearing that was supposed to be a brag, except it isn't: ICE has arrested 379,000 people between Jan. 2025-Jan. 2026 -- but only 8,700 were suspected gang members or known suspected terrorists.

That's 2%! www.huffpost.com/entry/latest...

I spent a long time trying to figure out what to do with my Harry Potter books, because just dumping them in a little free library felt wrong. So I mailed them to this artist who was turning them into portraits of murdered trans women

All emotions carry information. They are messengers calling for attention. As we shine light on what we're feeling, we bring awareness to our grief.

We allow it to be what it is, no judgment. In being seen and heard, grief is lightened.

Black autistic women are also less likely to be diagnosed with autism, misdiagnosed or diagnosed later. Some of the Black autistic women I know only got diagnosed AFTER their children received an autism diagnosis.
Black autistic women live at the intersection of racism and ableism. We don’t lack courage to unmask we lack safety. And that truth needs to be said out loud.

Petition to sign, if you so wish:
Merlin, who operate theme parks such as Alton Towers, apparently decided that autistic and ADHD people don't count as having real needs, and are no longer eligible for their usual ride passes if they find queues impossible.

What?!
Please share.

Are we ready to acknowledge yet that the problem is not with a handful of bad people, but a massive systemic crisis rooted in colonialism and the resultant trauma it instilled in everyone involved in it?

We agreed that it was important to explicitly address the political climate Weird Pride Day is taking place in this year.

Weird Pride is a celebration, but also, always, an act of defiance - perhaps now more than ever.

Credit to David @neurohubcommunity.org for suggesting this.

#StayWeird, folks.
Weird Pride Day 4th March 2026

Weird Pride in a Hostile World

This is a day for people to embrace their weirdness, & reject the stigma associated with being weird. To publicly express pride in the things that make us weird, and to celebrate the diversity of humankind

This is a very powerful video from comedian Josh Johnson. Not just because what he says that's meaningful. But because it shows an emerging trend that high profile people have finally started speaking up, despite concerns it might alienate their followers.

It is time to choose sides.

Every cis person needs to read and absorb these sentences.
Never again.

If the things you require me to sacrifice "for the greater good" are my healthcare, my safety, my bodily autonomy and my right to exist as an equal human being in your society, then it's not the good at all, and your party can burn to the ground and the nation along with it.

This is the reality of means-testing and work requirements. Even those on the left can fall for this stuff and ignore the costs. To end this madness, we need to go universal. No more means-testing or conditions. Universal basic income, healthcare, and education. And tax the rich more than they get.
I will simply never recover from reading this sentence:

"Since Georgia implemented work requirements in 2020, they have spent twice as much on Deloitte consultants and administrative costs as on healthcare for people."
Today, Luke Farrell (@lukef.bsky.social) explains how complex eligibility requirements have turned America’s safety net into a lucrative revenue stream for monopolistic private contractors.

I think about Elijah McClain a lot. How he was a sweet, lovely young soul who used to play the violin for stray cats. How brutally his young life ended and how the State sent riot police to interrupt the violin vigil in his name. The cruelty was always the point.

not productive: "here's all the reasons you should be understanding about why I was wrong."

productive: "I was wrong. you were right. how can I help now?"

and then STOP trying to get people to stop being mad at you. they're going to be mad a while. that's okay. just eat it and try to do better.
