My partner & I have been building some small-games using play-doh & stop motion. Our goal is every pixel on screen to be hand-sculpted in real-life; even the UI!

We have an Instagram with some videos of our experiments! www.instagram.com/boressostudio

But guess I'll be posting here too! 😁
6 months at IOI.

Easily the most fun I've had in my career so far! Feels great to be back on the game engine side of gamedev. 😁

How poor leadership slows down game development
No tool—AI or otherwise—can speed up game development if leaders don't rise to the occasion.

At the rate Epic is going, its only a matter of time before there is a Fortnite x Shakespeare collab.

Nothing multiplies the complexity of a 3 week honeymoon travelling across China than my bank randomly blocking card payments half way through the trip. 🙃

The more physics-based character controllers I write, the more I lean towards the notion that 99% of issues are solved by it being just a rolling sphere collider that has forces pushing it and the visuals are context-aligned inside it. 🤔

Advice (that actually works) when submitting for headcount in a mega-corporation of thousands of people:

- Count the amount of people you want to hire and multiply by 3.
- Submit that number.
- C Level & Finance will auto cut any headcount number to 1/3.
- You will get exactly what you need. 😎

Sad to see people calling out Australia for this; the country is trying to reduce frustration & stress in the next generation of game artists and non-programmers! 😄

Secured tickets to see System Of A Down. My childhood gateway band into heavy music; but somehow had never seen them live before!

This happens so incredibly often, but you rarely hear about it in public. The amount of institutional knowledge that is readily walked out the door, with a severance package in hand, is incredible.

Which is why you also sometimes hear of folks being re-hired as contractors. A very expensive mistake
The last time I was at a studio with a layoff, a meeting was derailed because the director asked, with increasing irritation, which engineer was supposed to design a feature that underpinned the whole game. That engineer had been laid off 2 days prior, and no one else knew how to do it.
Layoffs wreck studios. Institutional knowledge is SO valuable in the games industry. When you eventually replace that laid off employee, I don’t care if they’ve got 30 years of experience and dozens of games under their belt. They still have to learn the pipeline, the software, the systems.

Glacier Engine has many, many really nice QOL workflows that make dev & debugging actually fun.

One day I'll talk more about them, but one highlight ill share now is being able to play the game then select anything through the game/render view and then instantly locate it in the scene context. 😍
