And not for nothing, if a campaign lives or dies by *you personally as an organizer,* it is not a good campaign.

Effective large-scale campaigns (and orgs, and movements) have to be resilient. That means some level of redundancy in leadership, in case of incapacitation, death, arrest, vacation, etc

This doesn’t just apply to organizers. It’s a place job trauma can come from especially in the public sector. Do what you can do and not more. Boundaries are a necessity not a personal failing.
If you have a tendency towards conscientiousness and a tendency towards conscience, it is very easy to drink this sort of Kool Aid and think:

If just work hard enough, just connect deeply enough, just speak convincingly enough... Change will come.

When the labels were released last week, there were immediate accuracy issues. Three accounts belonging to NBC News journalists showed locations that did not correlate to where they are based but to where they had traveled to within the last several months instead. The issue persisted as of Tuesday.

The new feature at X is the latest chapter in a long-standing struggle within tech companies over how to handle so-called inauthentic behavior, in which people assume fake identities to run scams, push political causes, boost traffic to websites or otherwise chase clout.

Either you really engage with what it means to rule with the profound skilled investment it takes to rule with an iron fist over a dynamic corporate environment, or you actually understand the situation you're in.

And you start adjusting priorities and audacity over your real level of control.

I really don’t think we can overstate the harm that the tech ethos of move fast and break things (followed by the unsaid “and then just move on”) has done beyond tech. Government, ngos, universities, public schools that have invited the folks who think like this in keep ending up gutted
All DOGE accomplished was purging critical government staff, handing private data to outsiders, and sentencing thousands in developing countries to death by gutting USAID.

I don’t say this lightly: if there were any justice in this world, the people responsible for this devastation would be in jail
DOGE 'doesn't exist' with eight months left on its charter
U.S. President Donald Trump's Department of Government Efficiency has disbanded with eight months left to its mandate.

Had a good chat with @jasonkoebler.bsky.social for the @404media.co podcast. Got a chance to talk about how tech companies main pitch changed from “you exchange some surveillance for services” to “we get to spy on you all the time and it’s good, actually.”

I remain forever disappointed in “online safety” advice for families being about banning phones and social media.
And very rarely about having conversations, explaining risks and reflecting as adults on what we trust

The adults are the ones who need the most advice, in my opinion

I think the shortest version of why LLMs are an anti education technology is that education is fundamentally about making shared context to understand ourselves, each other, and the world

And by design LLMs destroy shared context

raccoons are wild animals, and i worry for them if they’re actually moving towards domestication

Seeing some news from @yellowperiltac.bsky.social (on their instagram story) that the ATF is changing form 4473 (FFL transfer to buyer) question number 14 to list “biological sex”.
This is specifically intended to keep trans people from buying guns, so do with that information as you will.

One of the biggest issues with the synthetic text extruding machines is that we have well-formed linguistic output with no accountability. Solution: OpenAI should be accountable for everything that comes out of ChatGPT, period. (And likewise for Google with Gemini, etc.)

The company claimed that A.I. did most of the hacking with limited human input and said it was a rapid escalation of the technology’s use in cybercrime.

I like how full text search of every book and human thought ever was a SOLVED PROBLEM in 2001, and now dicks at search engines and my own phone – a piece of silicon faster to respond than God was ever imagined in scripture – prevent it from working, _as a retroactive infantilizing design choice_.
