This, 100%.
So much of what we're seeing in US and European politics right now is driven by status anxiety. And so much of that perceived loss of status is based on the West's distorted view of itself and the rest of the world, and of how global inequality became the "normal" field on which history plays out.

They are laying off ppl at JPL???
Holy crap. This is terrible.

The article states it's "not related to the current U.S. government shutdown". But of course it is: they are both connected by the GOP destroying everything good about this country from the top down and the bottom up.

Psychotic btw
RFK JR: There are many other confirmations -- there are two studies that show children who are circumcised early have double the rate of autism. It’s highly likely because they are given Tylenol

What Trump is doing right now isn't "cancel culture." It's a modern version of the Red Scare. www.vox.com/on-the-right...

imo this is one of those @judah-grunstein.bsky.social posts that is a perfectly precipitated nugget of insight. Even if I’ve seen the idea expressed elsewhere, I tend to find his expression more cogent.
This is the original sin of technocratic governance. It doesn't have a vision of the state and society, only of the optimal numbers for the statistics it measures.
Without a coherent conceptual idea of what the UK as a state and society should look like after structural reforms a Starmer government won't have a sustainable policy mix that enables change and won't have the effective comms needed to sustain voter support for it

Kind of weird how Roberts declared the VRA preclearance to rest on dated and unfair assumptions about the South and within 15 years the former Confederate states will have effectively eliminated almost every black district within those states.
Missouri Republicans today passed a new gerrymander that would break apart the Democratic district in Kansas City, which would flip a seat to the GOP. (The governor is expected to sign it.) www.kansascity.com/news/politic...

BREAKING: ICE is sending Russian dissidents back to Russia. When the dissidents arrived in Russia, the Russian authorities were given documents relating to their asylum applications in the US which under US law are confidential. This seems to be part of a secret agreement between Trump and Putin.

A platform where Jamelle Bouie is one of the most influential and respected people is one that is going to cause discomfort for a certain kind of liberal (or person who thinks they are liberal). Yes, Bouie is black, but what these people really reject is strong criticism of America's status quo.

3. This is why the Bill Gates/Ecomodernist approach will never work. I define ecomodernism as using technology as a substitute for political and economic change. We need new technologies and their widespread application. But we *also* need bold policies to shut down the old technologies.

The Anchor Hitch, or Bend, is also known as the Fisherman's Hitch and is an excellent knot to use for attaching an anchor line to an anchor.
