Una Mullally: Media outlets need to break ties with X
The presence of media outlets on X does not have a diluting effect on the concentration of misinformation on the platform. If it did, then we wouldn’t be where we are

For starters - no Irish State/Gov agencies/politicians should be on Twitter. None. They could do this today and it would actually be more than just empty words.

A fun question. In 5 years time, what looks better? The US’s enormous bet & capex on AI? Or China’s equally enormous bet and capex on renewables?
China has made cheap, clean energy available in huge quantities. The world should take the win econ.st/4oqFszB

Smashing Pumpkins release the “Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness” album 30 years ago today.

Billy Corgan said “1979” was about “being 17, 18 — this weird feeling of having a job and a car, .. but I still had the tethers to home.”

Why “1979?"

“I have no idea, I had to call it something.”

I’ve been saying for years that we need to move to an impact based warning system like the UK Met Office use. The winds we saw yesterday have a much bigger impact this time of year and also when peak of storm is during work day. The Met Éireann system is based on specific thresholds being met.

“Us…they’re just going to be much smarter than us. Imagine you were in charge of a playgroup of 3 year olds…it wouldn’t be very hard to get control of them….

Probably the stupidest take you’ll see online today. There are no text based apps growing except Threads, Reddit, LinkedIn, Substack and if you broaden your perspective slightly - LLMs. All of which twitter was ahead of in 2012 and could have devoured if it wasn’t managed horrifically
There isn’t a text based internet social media site that’s actually growing, it’s a dead medium that’s only used by elder millennials, media and bad faith actors
I really don't like the wagon-ciricling response that happens when people point out that Bluesky feels smaller and smaller every day. I can feel it, and I know you can feel it too. You should want this place to grow because it's better than the other options.

My hot take is that I think wind turbines are beautiful. Like if you’re going to tilt against windmills because they ‘ruin a landscape’ my counter argument will be “no they don’t they’re gorgeous”.

“What about China?” For years this was the go to excuse for people not to support action on climate change.

Sure China still uses a lot of coal but that appears to have peaked and when it comes to installing renewable energy tech China leads globally hands down.

NEW DATA: China's wind+solar overtakes thermal capacity🙌

39GW of solar added in Jan-Feb - a million solar panels per day🤯+ 9GW of wind

Thermal generation still dwarfs wind+solar, but new wind+solar (+nuclear+hydro) is broadly meeting elec demand growth, halting further rises

I want to say something precise: I have never seen evidence of any kind that CEOs in general are anything other than replacement level thinkers, and significant evidence that the typical CEO is way below replacement level. That doesn't mean they *all* are, but hoooooo boy is it a skinny right tail.
Now this is some unambiguously funny stove touching
