He’s an opinion commentator he picked up on a pretty influential book and applied it to Ireland. It stands up for the most part. But it’s nice to encounter a rare species in the wild, someone who thinks JRs are good, actually.

Here’s another anecdote for ya. Lawyer approaches a solar farm developer with a figure to be paid off to drop a JR. the developer pays it as a cost of doing business I can go all day. Get off the internet and go educate yourself by speaking to people who are trying to progress the country.

I don’t think that was the core point. Increasing engineering representation from 0 to something +0 was one point. Thats TDs not ministers. The other point I took was that the JR system perpetuated by lawyers and judges is an impediment to progress in western societies. Which is inarguable.

Mate I personally know of a law firm in a rural suburb in dublin who collect money from local residents to enter nuisance JRs to prevent planning of the development of a new housing estate that people can live in. It’s a great business model. Is this right in your view?

Pretty straight forward if you read it man, unless you didn’t read it or don’t have a clue what you’re talking about. The judicial review system in Ireland is a horrific impediment to progress. It’s mostly perpetuated by the legal class.

He’s a much much better communicator than Z though? It will play to his strengths to sit and be attacked and smile back. Should be box office.

Ha ha. More reason to buy your book mate !

That part was absolutely insane

Yeah but the post was about whether a newspaper should be reporting on this. To be news it has to be “new”. They covered it for 10 years and hes been elected president twice. Their news space is better spent on things like the Epstein emails than the 2,000,0001st story about Trump being rude
November 19, 2025 at 9:43 AM
You’re comparing the response to the 2000th incident to what the response would be like to a hypothetical 1st Obama discretion.
November 19, 2025 at 8:22 AM
Trumps ignorance has lost salience. Literally nobody cares after 10 years of this. But remember back to the access Hollywood tape? That level of media coverage would apply to your Obama hypothetical. But if Obama kept that ignorance up for 10 years, nobody would care. Similar to how trumps treated
November 19, 2025 at 8:22 AM
This is such a tedious line of argument, boring because it’s been repeated so many times it’s meaningless and actually completely wrong. Trump activates his base by attacking the “liberal” media. Obama /Harris would have activated the liberal base if they attacked Fox reporters. But chose not to.

Great photo

I honestly don’t know why that’s not been discussed. No voter would actually care if they did it

The presence of media outlets on X does not have a diluting effect on the concentration of misinformation on the platform. If it did, then we wouldn’t be where we are

For starters - no Irish State/Gov agencies/politicians should be on Twitter. None. They could do this today and it would actually be more than just empty words.

A fun question. In 5 years time, what looks better? The US’s enormous bet & capex on AI? Or China’s equally enormous bet and capex on renewables?

Smashing Pumpkins release the “Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness” album 30 years ago today.

Billy Corgan said “1979” was about “being 17, 18 — this weird feeling of having a job and a car, .. but I still had the tethers to home.”

Why “1979?"

“I have no idea, I had to call it something.”

It makes sense if you think of it as a meme stock pushed by retailer investors coordinating online. It’s falling because of profit taking.
