I desperately want the AI bubble to burst already for so many reasons and among them is that I’m tired of feeling exasperated over people I otherwise respect and think are generally pretty sharp getting suckered into thinking the hype might be real

watching mamdani get into office and just start flipping the switches labeled "good things" makes me think about this post a lot

establishment democrats don't like the guy because he puts on display how intentionally ineffective they are
my worldview changed drastically when i internalized that most problems are fundamentally just choices humans make. we could just *decide* to do better things, but instead we decide not to.
it is always a *choice* to let poor people suffer and die.

little item for the Senate Dems to ponder: which of the reforms you’re currently floating is going to stop this?

worth noting that the second rich people stopped being afraid of mobs tearing them limb from limb, they stopped building libraries and opera houses and stuff and started ripping the copper wiring out of the walls of society instead

Impeachment is the only Constitutional check Congress has against a lawless president and talking about it would be a good start to reasserting Congressional power in the future. Assuming of course Congress wants to do that
Speaking out like this is all they can do now. Impeachment is a total and complete joke, and threatening to use it is akin to threatening to hit someone with a wet noodle. Impeachment is no longer a viable tool to use against Republican politicians.

The Epstein emails should really end the debate over whether society should have billionaires. "Do you want there to be a class of people so powerful they can fuck your kids and no one will even try to do anything" seems like an easy sell if everyone in politics wasn't trying to get on their payroll

The funny thing about a certain type of angry conspiracy guy is that they’re literally being confronted with an elite paedophile ring and a tyrannical government at the same time right now, and because it isn't being done by the people they wanted it to be done by they’re all being pussies about it

the nation was as unified as it has been in decades, screaming for ICE to be stopped, and that wasn't enough for the feckless Dem leaders to move a finger. There just doesn't seem to be an amount of yelling that will make them care, which is why every single Dem needs to be primaried.

Right now, Democrats have the power to defund and abolish ICE. We should do it. This is about right and wrong—and the murder we are seeing on the streets is just plain wrong. Anyone who supports funding DHS and ICE is supporting the murder of Americans. We can stop this.

The killing of Alex Pretti and the grotesque lying was an overreach by the administration. They've paid a price and had to pull back a bit. But it's when there's some disarray that the democratic opposition needs to intensify the offensive, and turn a marginal tactical success into a major victory.

I don’t want to hear anything from an elected official unless it’s a plan to defund the DHS and impeach Noem, Bovino, etc. No texts. No emails. No talk about the economy. Step up or step off.

Them, but also more directly: 285 people out of 535 could end all this (218 + 67). That fact should not be treated as an "oh they'll never do it" shrug, as if they don't have agency. They should be hammered constantly as traitors and cowards every day they don't.
Seeing a bunch of normal ass midwestern moms and dads marching in -20 degrees knowing they might be tear gassed or worse really drives home what a cowardly lot of people the pundit class is

the failure of Dem opposition still comes from the party being without shared beliefs such that the only message they can agree on is affordability.

the party as a whole won’t condemn cops. they won’t call for a wealth tax. they won’t call for expansive labor rights. they’re lost but hate the left.

For those who think impeachment isn't practical good tactics:

If a president violates the constitution or breaks the law and you don't impeach, you're ceding that the constitution is void and so is the law.

So much for practicality and good tactics.

New Illustration: "We Beat 'Em Before..."

Taken from a British WW2 poster, the original features a WW1 German soldier at the top. I just swapped it for the Nazi soldier it had at the bottom.
