Mostly poetry and soccer from an antifascist, neurodivergent, genderqueer, Christian heretic perspective. Also practical and impractical uses of language and images in and out of our current context, and an item a day from the published archives.

Masked men running around the streets terrorizing people is not helping my progress. I also know it's possible to want to smash the patriarchy and love the men in my life who share the same views. Real ones know what's up.

Meta removed a few Nazi posts, but left influencers with millions of followers free to push misogyny, racism, and white supremacist content. Instagram is still hosting creators who monetize hate. The platform isn’t moderating extremism—it’s amplifying it.
After GPAHE Reporting, Meta Removes Antisemitic Content But Leaves Misogyny and Anti-Black Racism Unchecked
GPAHE’s investigation forced Meta to remove some antisemitic and neo-Nazi content — but the platform continues to host rampant misogyny, anti-Black racism, and other extremist propaganda from major in...

Think you have to retire the phrase “immigration crackdown” when every major violent spectacle — at least those the news is choosing to highlight — involve US citizens screaming “Check my ID!”
As the Trump administration escalates its immigration crackdown in Minneapolis, arrests and aggressive tactics by ICE and the Border Patrol, many seen on viral videos, have intensified the frustration and fear among residents, business owners and immigrant workers. trib.al/zVm2mk5

Yes, immigration agents not only took Arnoldo's phone, the 10th grader had to use Find My Phone to locate it — in a vending machine for used electronics, close to an ICE detention center.

Bald eagles and beer are pretty friggin cool too though ngl
Frost: For so long, the right wing has held up patriotism as a vibe, as an aesthetic. But patriotism is more than bald eagles and flags and beer. Patriotism is about loving the people who live in the damn country — every single one of them.

I'm surprised there isn't a gambling sponsor. They're fully integrated into sports now. Take bets on the news during the segment. Report on the odds for various events happening. Is this worse than having Jack Daniels commercials? I have no objection to whiskey. But yes this is a little weird.
Update — Here is what the new apparent CBS News segment "Whiskey Fridays with Tony Dokoupil" may look like:

The fatal shooting of Renée Good last week, as ICE officers and residents faced off on a Minneapolis street here, has brought new attention to ICE monitoring.

Today at 34 & Park in Minneapolis, a woman tried to drive down the street where a protest had broken out in front of a home ICE was raiding, saying she had a doctor apt to get to. ICE agents busted out her windows, cut off her seatbelt, and pulled her out before arresting her.

We Choose to Stand

I speak softly at times
but the ground listens.
Every step carries intention.

The world asks for nothing
then records everything-
pauses, proximity, care.

I stay where tenderness resolve
is not a separate choice-
we stand beside one another
deeply as an act of love.

How far does humanity
have to stoop
to see itself in the gutter?

How many times
does it fall
before it learns to walk?

When does it learn
from the history
it replicates?

How much
more suffering
can we take?

We'll take it all,
'cause greed doesn't care
about you or me.
