I think this supports my assertion that Democrats ought to be trying to inspire and motivate people who didn't bother to vote rather than worrying about the "swing voters" (i.e. idiots and arseholes) who voted for Trump.

Ask yourself why the first group stayed home, not how you can turn the right.
Never seen it framed this way by all recent elections

The president thinks federal goons haven’t been violent *enough* with the American people.

The president seems to hope that his thugs will kill someone soon.
Q: Americans have been watching videos of ICE tackling a young mother, tear gas being used in a Chicago residential neighborhood, and the smashing of car windows. Have some of these raids gone too far?"

Trump: "No. I think they haven't gone far enough”

Adams has railed against vaccines, and science in general, for many years. Kennedy cut funding for promising work including mRNA vaccines for prostate cancer. Just, the audacity here.

I really wish we could make the necessary and important point about how much hateful Islamophobia is being directed at Mamdani without saying, "Actors could never get away with saying it about the Jews!"

Because, you know, Mel Gibson still gets plenty of work.

Okay, so: once you’ve nicked £90m in assorted crown jewels from a national museum, I think it’s safe to say you no longer fall into the “petty crime” category even if you haven’t previously been noteworthy in your field.

Laure Beccuau said ‘upper echelons of organised crime’ unlikely to be involved as one perpetrator remains at large

MAGA's attempt to use the "insurrection clause" against Mamdani is absurd, but it's also a very deliberate statement of right-wing impunity, given that Trump actually did spark an insurrection but the Supreme Court ruled that he was not constitutionally ineligible to hold public office.
Exclusive | House Republicans exploring ways to prevent Mamdani from being sworn in as NYC mayor if he wins on Election Day
House Republicans are exploring ways to prevent Zohran Mamdani from ever being sworn in as mayor even if he prevails in Tuesday’s election by using the Constitution’s “insurrectio…

I find it so fascinating that even in a post explicitly claiming "I don't care" about being racist or not, they still engage in desperate verbal gymnastics to avoid acknowledging it. Like she's still too cowardly to say "I know this is racist but", has to be "I know people will call this racist but"

It's wild because actually she's calling him Jewish, antisemitically

Justice can afford to be blind when it assumes* everyone is playing fair and acting in good faith.

Justice cannot afford to be blind when it finds out otherwise.

At some point, the blindfold must come off.

*(yes, the assumption itself is bullshit but run with the idea)

Today is a great day to share the new party line: #DoubleTheFederalJudiciary. All we need is simple majorities in both houses of Congress to change the number of district court, appellate, and SCOTUS judges. Not 60 votes to impeach, not 3/4 to change Constitution; simple majorities. That's it.
Buddy, mate, pal: this isn't about appealing to Trump voters. This is about galvanising the people who usually don't see any reason to bother voting.

It doesn’t matter what I think. Also, none of this would ever happen. But if I had a zillion dollars:

1. Run a “we do hard things” campaign across southern and rust belt states. Invest heavily in local, state and regional social infrastructure. Sponser later hours at a library, build a skate park…
If I were to sum up my advice to the Democratic party leadership about how to defeat Trumpism, it would be to set aside policy for now and focus instead on articulating a vision of what American society should look like and what role the US should play in a rapidly changing world today.

yes yes yes to all of this. material politics is the way forward and that doesn’t mean slogans it means the very difficult work of being a real presence in the lives of the people who you want to trust you.

I'm not wedded to one explanation over another, but trying to cast this as post hoc narrative is a mistake.

"No blood for oil" was a very common chant when we were protesting against the second Iraq War.

We all kind of thought that, because Halliburton
This is an incredibly tenacious myth about the Iraq War, pushed relentlessly by the Jacobin-y left.

But there's no evidence for it. No evidence that policy-makers had oil as even a secondary or tertiary motive for invading.

And it would make zero sense to do this, as Saddam was perfectly/

If you went up to a random person on the street and told them that Trump was moderate on Medicare, Social Security, or trade, they would beat you with sticks
There's also a weird conventional wisdom forming that the Democratic agenda is toxically unpopular and that Republicans are delivering what voters want.

This is laughably false. Trump is the most unpopular president in modern history and his entire agenda is underwater.

TECH CTO: the torment nexus post is a cautionary tale about being mean to me
"Torment Nexus" comes from this tweet and is often used now to describe the kind of negative experiences you can have with social networks, like getting dogpiled or harassed or being pushed into conflict

Apart from anything else it's so funny to whine about other people having parasitical email jobs when you are the head of the think tank whose job is to develop the official Nazi Party platform
it's utterly wild how the Heritage Foundation president talks about other people

if you found a guy talking like this outside, you'd probably call the cops
