Maybe there is a path back? If most of the public can live as if there is, it kinda means there can be way more pushback than now when people realize their futures are at stake and this isn't a mere annoyance. But I worry of the boiling frog thing... at some point is it too late?

It is disconcerting right now when people act like everything is normal and the future will look like the past. Where one can debate the ecological impacts of AI and the generic problems with capitalism as if nothing in past months happened and there is a path back to normal concerns

New York Times reports that it is unclear whether having a federal agency accept money in excess of congressional appropriations "violates a law prohibiting federal agencies from accepting money in excess of congressional appropriations." I guess we'll never know!

The president said today that a donor had given the government $130 million to help pay troops during the government shutdown. He declined to name the donor, but described him as a “patriot” and a personal friend.

If evenly distributed, the money would pay only about $100 to each service member. But is not yet clear how the money will be used, or whether the donation violates a law prohibiting federal agencies from accepting money in excess of congressional appropriations.

President Trump says he is not going to attempt to deploy the National Guard to San Francisco after a conversation with San Francisco Mayor Daniel Lurie.

The president says he has also spoken to SalesForce CEO Marc Benioff and Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang.

The Federal Government was preparing to "surge" San Francisco, California, on Saturday, but friends of mine who live in the area called last night to ask me not to go forward with the surge in that the Mayor, Daniel Lurie, was making substantial progress. I spoke to Mayor Lurie last night and he asked, very nicely, that I give him a chance to see if he can turn it around. I told him I think he is making a mistake, because we can do it much faster, and remove the criminals that the Law does not permit him to remove. I told him, "It's an easier process if we do it, faster, stronger, and safer but, let's see how you do?" The people of San Francisco have come together on fighting Crime, especially since we began to take charge of that very nasty subject. Great people like Jensen Huang, Marc Benioff, and others have called saying that the future of San Francisco is great. They want to give it a "shot." Therefore, we will not surge San Francisco on Saturday. Stay tuned!
