Guatemala's Volcán de Fuego erupting at sunset, shot from camp at 12,000 ft atop the neighboring Acatenango volcano. A photograph of the summit area of Volcán de Fuego in which a powerful eruption sends lava hundreds of meters into the air above the summit just after sunset. This slightly long exposure creates arcing paths of orange and yellow lava as the projectiles rise and fall through the air before cascading down the slopes of the volcano as yellow-orange streaks. The sky behind the volcano is orange with some clouds at the bottom, and bluish-purple at the top with a couple stars just becoming visible after sunset. On the far bottom right of the image is a streak of light created by the headlamps of a group of hikers on the volcano.

My 11” x 14” linocut portrait of Sophie Brahe, a Renaissance aristocrat in headgear, ruff, dark clothing with medallion on a wide band and a long scarf or other thin fabric draped over her shoulders with her hands folded in front of her and alchemical vessels, printed in dark bronze ink, on a bronze background. In green behind her head is a map of the gardens at Uranienborg, with her head at the centre of the diamond shaped pale green knot garden (geometric planned gardens). I'm drawing every day but mostly for projects that are in progress so I'll probably use this year's #ArtAdventCalendar event to look back at my favorite drawings I did this year, starting with this one! I had the idea of the outline of a white cat against a garden and it slowly evolved into this.
