"All animals are created equal, but some animals are more equal than others."
It's best to understand that fascists see hypocrisy as a virtue. It's how they signal that the things they are doing to people were never meant to be equally applied.

It's not an inconsistency. It's very consistent to the only true fascist value, which is domination.

Anyway back in high school I was in a magnet program that used to admit 50% boys and 50% girls.

Right before my year, parents of boys complained and demanded strict merit-based admission.

My year was like 80% girls so shoutout to the boymoms for making sure their sons didn't steal my slot.

We library folk do a good job talking about all the free services we offer, but I don’t see many of us talking about how libraries are one or the only places where you can use services without being advertised to.

I just ran the numbers on the 54 accounts I still follow, and exactly 50% of them are people I have met in person in some capacity. Of the remaining 27, three are institutional (e.g. @merriam-webster.com),

This is my friend's cat. Its name is Cookie Swirl, and it disappeared in the American section of Charlotte airport on 11/10. We're asking for your help. She doesn't have any other socials, so if you can post it widely to see if anyone knows where it is. It's a little thing, but matters a lot to her.

This holiday season, In case you were not aware; tulips, lillies, cyclamen, holly, mistletoe and poinsettia are toxic to cats and dogs; lilies and cyclamen are especially deadly for cats. Please be advised, I do not want anyone to lose a beloved pet just because they werent warned!

The problem with the "This is not AI" labels is that they imply that AI is the default and human creation is the rarified exception. It's like putting "no artificial flavors" labels on fresh fruit.

I just heard “Somebody’s Watching Me” by Rockwell on the sound system and realized it needs either a rerelease or a cover, because it’s pretty pertinent for the surveillance state these days. Plus, it’s a fun song.

Techbros talking about how great Artificial General Intelligence is going to be when they finally create it remind me of crank inventors trying to make a perpetual motion machine. It’s physically impossible, but that doesn’t stop them from trying. Problem is, they have money to burn to keep trying.

Skill. Issue.

Once, during a storm, an older gentleman knocked on my Cuban godmother’s door and after some pantomime because neither spoke much English, she determined he needed eggs. She gave him the last of what she had even though she was on a fixed income. 1/6

Today is the Feast of the Immaculate Conception, or, as I like to call it, the Feast of the Perpetual MISconception.

It's celebrated as a state holiday in many countries, but certainly not the US, so most non-Catholic Americans have never heard of it, and if they have, they find it confusing.

It only took four of us making a two-minute public comment about the library at the city council meeting for the councilors to restore the funding the mayor’s office had cut.
I really can't emphasize enough that if you care about local politics, all you gotta do is show up. Just a regular schmegular person showing up. Literally just show up consistently in person and within a remarkably short amount of time, you will have a shocking amount of influence.

A very important thread. When I was probably no more than 10, I saw this picture of the woman known as Harlow in the Philly Inquirer. A little babygay, I was shocked that such a glamour queen could live in my hometown and even more shocked to see her described as "a former man."

The way people put African nations and Native American tribes into undifferentiated cultural lumps is like punting down the Thames in a gondola, wearing a beret and lederhosen, and saying "Look how European I am!"
