The attack on @frediotto.bsky.social was seeded years ago by Roger Pielke Jr, who started arguing that this table from a recent @ipcc.bsky.social report proved that climate science cannot attribute extreme weather to climate change.

But Roger is of course lying. And we know this for 2 reasons.

06:22 AM EDT Roger Pielke Jr. and oil industry supporters are attacking climate scientist Friederike Otto, whose
work has been used in lawsuits against polluters. Table 12.12 | Emergence of CIDs in different time periods, as assessed in this section. The colour contesponds to the confidence of the region with the highest confidence: white cells indicate where evidence is lacking or the signal is not present, leading to overal bu confidence of an emerging signal.

Just checking... we're still counting "based off of," when they mean "based on," as incorrect, yes?
Google ngram for frequency of the phrases "based off" and "based off of" from 1900 to 2020, showing an alarmingly steep rise that takes off around the year 2000.

Update: Lindsay Shepherd says the B.C. Conservatives have fired her.
An X post that reads: Today, BC Conservative Leader John Rustad fired me from my position as Comms Officer with the Conservative Party of BC Caucus. It was because of this tweet.

I am a mother of two young children, and I am 32 weeks pregnant -- I was about to go on maternity leave.

More to come.

And nobody covered it.

The thumbnail says "The Second Law is Wrong," but we all understand that is short for, "The Second Law, as originally conceived, isn't quite right, and has to be replaced by a probabilistically qualified version," yes?

(Those who watch the video will get the appropriately nuanced take.)

Every good programmer I know has been saying this to me for months; meanwhile every not-great programmer I know has been trying to outsource their work to ai, causing more issues/delays than they if did it themselves.

A lot of these tools only seem good to people who are not great at their jobs.

This point hasn’t been given nearly enough attention. If you applied actually existing research principles to genAI, it would never be allowed anywhere near a university, research project or classroom.

Loved how I got to clarify that the 5 principles in section 4 of the paper were nothing new. They came straight out of The Netherlands Code of Conduct for Research Integrity, that every scientists in The Netherlands already ought to know. All we did is apply them to AI. www.nwo.nl/en/netherlan...

I know of a landscaping business that cropped up (no pun intended) overnight claiming they use AI for superior gardens. They go around putting little signs on people’s front plants with a plant ID tag and their QR code.

All their plant ID is wrong.
