Accessibility =/= quality or worth

It's objectively just less of a time, focus, and energy commitment to read or craft a short story, but you can still get so much out of the process. Why isn't this a default, major thing? Why does it seem so sidelined?

The domination of the novel as the default writing format stifles creativity, especially in newer writers who are forced to consider it as the only format that really matters. Short fiction, inherently more accessible to read and write, doesn't get the respect it deserves.

I dream of a world where "writing" isn't just a shortcut word for novels and then other stuff, but where flash fiction collections exist alongside fictional in-universe texts, encyclopedias, and other interesting projects. A world of Houses of Leaves and Gods of Peganas.

Until 99% of remakes/adaptations of fiction are anything more than "story i like but my version :)" then absolutely not. An entire wave of cash-in coat-tail riding slop awaits. Ideas are free. Inspiration is real. Riff of those. No need for brand recognition.
