It's Trans Day of Remembrance. Today we remember those who were taken from us far too soon because of transphobia in the world.

For many of us, we are misgendered even in death, and disallowed from being who we actually are even when we are no longer here. This is why we remember our dead.

The great force of history comes from the fact that we carry it within us, are unconsciously controlled by it in many ways, and history is literally present in all we do.

As a Jew who works on stuff like human rights and international law, it is such a breath of fresh air to have one candidate willing to find a first principles, human rights-based answer on Israel and repeat it endlessly for a very, very long year, trusting that many Jews understand and agree

Utterly charmed by this annotation someone added to a 1658 copy of Edward Topsell's The History of Four-Footed Beasts and Serpents

In case you cannot read it, someone has added "help help or I shall be eaten to pieces by this devouring creature"

☞☞ Hands-on reading ☜☜

The manicules in #rarebooks are fantastically diverse. Some are tiny & discreet, others take up half the margin; some have flowing sleeves, or even little faces.

They’re glimpses into the personality of readers/scribes highlighting passages worth reading.

Well past sunset tonight (I was exhausted from running errands all day), but this year's honey cakes were still a success. I even left them in the oven a bit long and they are still delicious.

Shanah tovah, and may 5786 be kinder to us all.

It should be needless to say, but it is perhaps at this moment worth saying, that transgender individuals have the same right as anyone else to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.

Periodic reminder that because testosterone is a scheduled substance in the US, every single testosterone prescription in the country is stored in a state level database.

Please, please, protect transmascs.

Transmascs on prescribed testosterone are in so much danger right now.

Pictured: The exact amount of fabric I had left after cutting the sleeve linings for my next costume. Really cut this one close.

(And if you can guess the costume just from the pattern here, you have some serious nerd cred!)
