SCOTUS found Biden didn’t have authority as President to cut student loans without Congress. Yet they find Trump has the authority to cut whole government and eliminate entire agencies unilaterally. This is the most compromised, partisan and unethical Supreme Court in history.

7/ Second, I think Will is mistaken to describe this as a *Congress* problem rather than a *Republican* problem. The last time the Democrats had majorities (and therefore agenda-setting power) in both chambers was the 117th Congress. And that was a tremendously productive Congress!

Posters in good standing who write for the Times, the Nation, the American Prospect, Mother Jones, the Bulwark, Jacobin, Baffler, and even the Onion who are not now, at the present time (present time being 2024-Present) vociferous, vocal, active Democrats are explicitly pro-Trump.

I can’t believe that racist post by The Onion is still up. If they didn’t have sense enough to avoid posting it in the first place, they should at least have the decency to take it down now. @bencollins.bsky.social

The people are The Onion are flat-out fucking racists. Yes, this includes Ben Collins and anyone who is dating him.
Not sure what I’m supposed to find funny about this “satire” from that site run by a carpetbagging Congressional candidate’s unethical partner.

And so the "movement," especially in the US, is just in group signaling. And if the "movement" isn't going to reward politicians who end wars, what, exactly, is the incentive structure you are building?

New cars crumple up and look worse than most wrecked old cars.

This is substantially preferable because in the latter case those forces aren’t dissipated through the car’s frame, it’s dissipated through *you*.

Old solid body trucks, man. A bad wreck in those basically liquifies your insides.
Just to put this in perspective:

The 1984 Pontiac Fiero - the thing that crumples up like this - got a five star safety rating and was hailed as one of the safest cars on the market at the time

A guideline for everyone: when someone is bitching about something a Dem allegedly "failed" to do, the person is probably wrong & the Dem actually *did* what the person claims the Dem didn't do. That should be your default position until proven otherwise.

I have a favor to ask.

Can everyone stop automatically assuming a homophobic Republican politician is in the closet?

I get it, it’s a funny joke, and yes, we know for a fact Grindr breaks anytime there’s a Republican convention, but that doesn’t mean every asshole Republican is in the closet.

The fact that the media has taken the lessons of 2020 and 2024 to be "We didn't hate Dems enough and didn't give Trump enough benefit of the doubt!" absolutely underscores just how much of Dems' 'messaging' problem simply doesn't rest with the Dems themselves.

And on top of all that there was the dogshit coverage of the Vice President before she was in the race & while she was in the race as her role was outright lied about at times, her economic plans went ignored, her healthcare proposals didn’t get airtime when she announced them on national tv, etc…

And Biden kept getting the heat for ending the forever war after Trump negotiated a terrible deal with the Taliban that helped collapse the Afghan government aside from him trying to invite them to Camp David around 9/11, or screwing refugees over. Plus all the “anti-war” people didn’t give a shit.

Instead of covering all of the infrastructure tours his cabinet did outside of local news & local framing, a lot of things like CHIPS & Science or lower drug costs (again, the IRA, which 0 Republicans voted for) were framed as more bipartisan than they actually were.

“They didn’t cover Biden’s electoral unpopularity before the debate”.

Actually they enabled that narrative too because the main drivers were *global* inflation which was steadily lowering w/ the Inflation Reduction Act & the Afghanistan withdrawal the guy in office now negotiated with no exit plan.

it's so frustrating because I feel like we went through this with Sinema, Fetterman, Platner, Nina Turner, Brie Joy Gray, etc. etc. etc. and every time it's met with the same "but maybe this time it's different" grace that's never ever afforded to any Dem in power who's actually *doing* something!
thank you for being one of the only sane people reacting to this. exactly.

If you want to embark in something that *never* requires moral compromises or satisfying multiple interests (not just corporate interests) at once, the last thing you want to do is get involved in politics.
I genuinely think that if most of the people who are loudly proclaiming they understand politics better than elected Dems actually tried to run for local office, they would go absolutely batty and quit politics forever.
Why has everyone decided that they should START their political career in Congress?

When I tell people to “run for something,” I mean school board, city council, board of supervisors, town select board, water board, state house/assembly, maybe even mayor.
