Sapiens was a fucking awful book and knowing more about the author now it makes perfect sense.

Origins by Lewis Dartnell is a far better book about what shaped human development and culture. If you're going to read something about the broad strokes of human history - read that.

"Sapiens" is so normal for the first 70,000 years of human history but then goes absolutely buckwild as soon as it gets to colonialism

Had the Aztecs and Incas shown a bit more interest in the world surrounding them - and had they known what the Spaniards had done to their neighbours - they might have resisted the Spanish conquest more keenly and successfully.

I played so much of it early in EA (unlocked everything before they changed the unlock system the first tim3) that the idea of starting over is out the window. I played a few rounds and have uninstalled.

I love any game that makes interacting with items something that is active and potentially hazardous. Using a map, operating a terminal, reading some notes? Oh the game isn't paused, that's an actual item and you've just lost situational awareness.
