And for the record, in case any younger people are wondering, no one was calling him Hitler, even vaguely. Or smearing him. He was correctly shown by his own words to be a supercilious richie-rich.

This is straight-up state law violation, no? It's a downzoning under SB 330 unless they had a way to spread the other 364 elsewhere in the city. Presumably Housing Element law too, tho I don't know which provision.

Los Altos Hills CA is up to their old tricks, to get out of allowing homes for the people who can’t afford the $5.7M houses there. The rich exclusionary town has to zone for multifamily housing, but they don’t want to, so they’re weaseling. 🧵1/7

Hydrogen! The thing George W. Bush touted as the future! To these shitmavens is a "Democrat" thing!

COLLINS: The Dept of Energy just canceled $1b for a hydrogen hub that covers Montana. Is that taking away good-paying jobs?

SHEEHY: Of course it is. We want govt to be open

C: But the Energy Secretary says he would've pulled that funding even if govt was open

S: ... Well, that's unfortunate

Maybe you're looking at the original, I'm just looking at the screenshots, but I see "Brown", "Andover", "FIRE", no idea what schools or data sets those mean, Brown could be a Brown study

Also he's taking university records on non-binary identity & labeling them as saying something about trans identity too which bespeaks great sloppiness

My first guess would be he cherry-picked a survey where margin of error made it jumpy & seemed to go down. Assuming it's not just made up

Although I am greatly enjoying the schadenfreude, I also suspect his biggest mistake was simply "trying to found a whole-ass media company" & it would have fallen to pieces no matter what tack he took

Another reminder how out of scale the power of the national fisc is vs the means of even the biggest billionaires. If this hallucinated person undertook to pay all military personnel costs temporarily, that would run him about $3.7 billion per WEEK.

Trump: "I had a very wealthy person who called -- a donor, a great gentleman -- and he said, 'if there's any money necessary, shortfall, for the paying of the troops, then I will pay it.' Meaning he will pay it. How about that?"

Musk isn't like this precisely - he was lucky enough to latch remora-like onto someone else's pretty good business plan at the right time

Too many hundredth-idiots at the apex of our economy
Quote displayed on Goodreads
“The source of my name,” the vessel had replied, “The Hundredth Idiot, is a quotation: ‘One hundred idiots make idiotic plans and carry them out. All but one justly fail. The hundredth idiot, whose plan succeeded through pure luck, is immediately convinced he’s a genius.”

A lot of this showed up when people tried to make social critiques of, like, advice columns

democrats are perpetually associated with extremist tankies who openly hate the democratic party, but even outlets that report on nazism among republican party staffers will never hang this albatross on republican officials

POLITICO: “.. They referred to Black people as monkeys and ‘the watermelon people’ and mused about putting their political opponents in gas chambers. They talked about raping their enemies .. and lauded Republicans who they believed support slavery.

Siri was never all that popular. Peak 2009.
Plods along around 20 per year in the 80s and 90s, climbs up in late 2000s to peak at 120, then falls back down to more like 10/year.

# babies named Alexa, 1980-2024. You can see the honeymoon period (2015, the second spike) and immediate abandonment.
Line graph. Below 250 each year until it starts to rise in popularity from 1985. Gradually increases to appear to peak first above 6k in 2006, then starts to fall off, then has a sudden spike in 2015 from 4.2k to over 6k, then falls down much more quickly than before, to below 400 in 2024

In case the terminology is unclear, this circulation statistic is print circulation. From what I can tell, they had about 2.5m digital subscriptions a year ago, lost 300k when Bezos spiked the Harris endorsement, lost another 75k by February after editorial overhaul, no idea what it is now.
